Webcam that makes good movies

Hi, I'm in the market for a webcam. I know some webcams can be used to make little movies. My friend had such a webcam, I think it was made by Creative. I thought the quality of the movie he sent me was pretty good and was wondering what brands of webcams include this option and which one might be the best bang for the buck. Thanks!

This $150 Intel one is pretty nice.. My friend and I were playing around with the one our teacher had in the Computer Lab. Very nice indeed.

i did not know such a webcam existed. did you look at creative's lineup? what about connectix? I would stay away from dlink.

MrCodeDude: which intel webcam?
Captain_Howdy: i didn't know they existed until my friend sent a little home movie of himself. I thought it was pretty cool and so I want one so i can be cool too..hehe.

The Kodak webcams have a really nice image quality (DVC-325). The 3Com® HomeConnect is also a good camera, although a bit expensive.

You're about three weeks late but you could have picked up the Kodak DVC 325 for $9.99 from your local Circuit City or even for FREE if you price matched. It's REALLY important to keep an eye on the Hot Deals forum and check it at least 3 times a day (3,000 times for me). There's a few good deals available right now just go to the Hot Deals forum and search for webcam.

Yes I am a Ferengi and damned proud of it!

Thanks...I know now how to find good deals on a webcam. Does anybody have any personal experience about which webcam can make good little home movies? I'm leaning towards the Kodak webcam mentioned in the posts above, but I would like to hear other opinions. Thanks!

I've seen different videoblaster webcams at different prices. Is there a specific make or model?

Also, are there any other suggestions out there? Thaaaaaaaaanks. 🙂

This One.

3COM home camera was discontinued. 🙁

I won't have any chance to update its drivers/software in future.

Do you mean discontinued? I was thinking about getting that camara because it supports Win2K. I've been reading about the Kodak webcam and I don't think it supports Win2k...🙁

Well if you don't mind spending more money than average for the USB cams, you might consider getting a FireWire WebCam? I've got an ADS Pyro WebCam that works nicely 640x480 at a constant 30fps

Just so you know, the Kodak DVC-325 works just fine with Win 2000, but you you need to download the drivers from Kodak. They're not included in the box. I don't know how good the vid cap software that comes with the DVC-325 is, I haven't tried it. According to the box, you can get 30 FPS at 160 X 120, and just by turning it on I estimate you can get around 15 FPS at 320 X 240. The quality is good. This is the same kind of web cam HappyKitten has. I paid around $60 for mine and I'm happy, so it's a great deal if you get it for less than $30.

SMILE 🙂 You're on Kodak Camera.

Like I said, I haven't tried to make movies on it. I never even installed the vid cap software, so I don't know. It will take pictures up to 640 x 480, but I've had the best luck with the camera set at 320 x 240, and using editor software to zoom it to the size I want. The little camera runs into USB bandwidth limitations at resolutions higher than 320 x 240 that make it hard to use.

From what I can tell, HappyKitten is a sweetie who goes to a women's college on the east coast who's not afraid to post pics of herself. Some people here don't like her for some reason. I've got nothing against her what so ever. She's a nice girl who's had good and bad cards dealt to her. My heart sank a little when I noticed that thread (that RossMan linked) got locked. She certainly wasn't expecting that. It almost immediately turned into a meaningless flame war.

<< LakerGod - You might want to check out this Hot Deal. >>

Thanks RossMAN

Wow...i can't believe this webcam is retailed at 70 bucks...i think i'll do some research on it. Anybody have any ideas or suggestions?
