Webcam recommendation?

If you have a webcam (standard 320-resolution one is good enough) and am happy with the image quality and included software, I'd appreciate a quick reply with which webcam you have.

I thought they were all about the same, but the one my cousin had really sucked. I'm looking to get a new one for him, and don't want to get him another one that sucks too. 😉

Thanks! 🙂

Anything with a CCD sensor on it instead of CMOS. The abovementioned Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 has a CCD sensor.

How much better is a CCD based one over a CMOS?....I too am looking at a new webcam and want something a bit better quality (currently using an Avermedia Intercam Elite....not fully XP compatible...keeps turning off during netmeeting!).

Cheers,

Jamie

CCD has less smearing or 'noise' plus it performs a lot better under low or less than ideal lighting. If you have Firewire, Orange Micro's iBot and the ADS Pyro (the older, transparent version) both use CCD. I have tried both and the Pyro has better low light performance due to its better CCD (Sony). I don't know if both are compatible with Netmeeting but I've used both with Yahoo IM and they worked flawlessly.

Is it true the audio codec in Windows Messenger XP is better than the ones in MSN Messenger, Netmeeting, Yahoo messenger, etc.?
