Webcam operation in Vista?

Dug out a Quickcam 4000 Pro and am trying to get it to work on my main rig, which is running Windows Vista. I've installed the latest driver package from Logitech's website, and the incoming audio works, but the video does not. All I get in Skype is a black screen; in the Quickcam software, a cascading blue/purple screen. All of the proper entries come up in the device manager, and it's being detected correctly across the board.

It works on both my laptop (XP Home) and server (Windows 98 :x) with video, but not on the main PC. My first hunch is that the video is being hogged by some other program on bootup, but I have no idea what it would be as I've never installed any other webcam.

Any ideas?
 
I have a GeForce 8800GTX, and I have no experience with the kind of problem you're talking about, so this could be good XD.

This is an operating system limitation. Vista window manager features will provide new ways of accomplishing overlays, but will require application porting.
 
That's pretty much over my head, I don't have much experience with the 'other' features of my video card/it's driver... What does that mean for me, that I need to look into the Vista window manager?
 
I'm just speculating this may be the problem, since most webcams use video overlays or have heavily relied on them in the past. Does Skype have a Vista support section? I would give Skype's support forum a look-through.
 
That's the thing, it isn't even just Skype - the video feed doesn't work anywhere, at any time, no matter how many times I try swapping USB ports/unplugging other devices/reinstalling the drivers. I'm perplexed, as I haven't seen anyone else with this issue.
