Webcam motion detection software recommendations

Hi folks!

I have Logitech Quick cam 9000 which can record HD, I mostly use 960x720.
I often use the cam with Logitech software for motion detection recordings. The thing works ok, it starts recording when motions is detected as it's supposed to.
But lately I found out, it sometimes simply stops working or detecting to be correct. I have it set up for motion detection and when I come back in 2-3 hours, I can see it recorded a couple of videos (lets say for the first 1 hour), but then it simply stopped and didn't record anything for the rest of the time. I know for a fact, motion was present those whole 2-3 hours, since I use it to record dance training sessions. I can't find any problem with it, or any solution to this weird thing. Sometimes if works for the whole training period, sometimes is simply doesn't. I thought it was my old notebook problem (too week or something like that), but that doesn't explain why it sometimes works and records more then 50 videos in 3 hours, the other time it doesn't and only records 15 videos in 3 hours (actually in only first hour).

Logitech help isn't any good, can't find anything, so I'm thinking about trying some other software. Does anyone have any recommendations for something like this? I don't need any uploading, sms-ing or any other security features.. I just need a good, reliable software that will record when motion is detected for the whole period when activated. Freeware is a plus of course, but am willing to pay a few bucks if it's a good software.

I use XP SP2.

TIA!!

Thx HN, but it's not really a great software to be honest. I can't set any recording time, I can't set any delay, HD recording doesn't work, can't configure the cam,..
Need something a little bit advanced that this 🙂

Thx, Mat

So far I've tryed Webcam Surveyor, Yawcam, Rise Sun, Freecam, Dorgem, Webcam XP and 2 others I don't remember.. nothing really works well 🙁
Either it can't record HD (960x720), or there's some other freaking problem.

Webcam XP looks nice, it also works, but I'm having some codecs problems. It works with only a few of them (I have 20+ installed) and the smallest one I can get it to work with, records at around 8MB/s. Logitech native software records to wmv format at around 1.5MB/s. ... :/ Big difference and hardly any visible image quality change to be honest..
Can't figure out, why it doesn't work with any Divx or H.264 codecs.. the recording starts, but then the file just disappears from the recording folder.. 🙁

Hope someone can suggest some other software..

TIA,
Mat

How did you setup Yawcam to work with your Logitech Pro 9000? I can't seem to get it to work with the motion sensing feature. It's not really that important. If I can get Yawcam to record an image every 1-2 seconds, then that's fine as well. Can you tell me how to configure that program? It's not exactly idiot-proof.

I've used Camcloud before... they have a cloud service so it's not software you'd install on your local network, but just runs through your browser (for webcams) or they support some Axis IP cameras as well.

good luck,
rmcd
