webcam frame rate questions...

I purchased a logitech quickcam pro 5000 web cam.

I'm using Yahoo messenger on a high end system. The problem is that the framerate is very slow and the images are not smooth at all. In fact the fastest framerate is about 3fps when looking at the stats of my webcam. I've installed the latest drivers from logitech and have the latest video drivers for my 7950gx2 vid card, an athlon x2 that is clocked like and FX60, and 2 gigs of ram.

It's plugged into a USB 2 port and my internet connection is a T1 connection. Is the slow frame rate normal or am i doing something wrong? Is it possible to get fluid webcam images or is that just a myth. The box says up to 30fps.

I'm just using it one on one at home using the yahoo messenger. Even if i just start up yahoo messenger and vue the feed from my webcam without broadcasting it, the frame rate is still 3fps. The frame rate goes even lower if i choose the better quality setting over the fast setting.

I purchased a logitech quickcam pro 4000 web cam.

i use it with MSN messenger on a DSL line to talk with a friend
on the East Coast.

it works good. rough estimate is 15 frames per second.

Does the MSN messenger show actual framerate?

Also, are you using the version 10 software for the quickcam? If yes, when you use the quickcam software to view what the camera sees, is the image smooth?

if u want ill test my yahoo with u, i have a qcam pro 5000 setup right now with v10 of logitech software.. i have a cogent 100mb fiber connection in nyc..

i just installed yahoo, and yeah its much slower than msn.. i would use msn over yahoo for vid chats..

I have a slightly older Logitech cam. I remember that its manual says one of the features is a system to adjust automatically for lighting conditions. If the light level is low it will shift to a slow frame rate to ensure the quality of each frame is kept up. So how's your lighting?

Unfortunately it's a very well lit room.

I have the same issue here. I have the pro 5000 as well. I don't know what the problem is. I tried Skype and it is better I think. But it is no where near 30FPS that it claims...I know it depends on my DSL line. However, I just brought up the logitech software that you can capture your own video, that is slow as well. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
