Webcam for dog?

I'm just curious if anyone has ever set up a webcam so that you can check on your pets when you're not home. If so, what type of equipment did you use? Did it work well? Am I insane for thinking about this?

I think this would only require 1 webcam really. One dog and one chinchilla, but the chin stays in his cage. 🙂

It would just give me a better piece of mind making sure they're ok a couple times a day.

No, but I did set up a webcam to see if my roommate was jerking off while I was gone.

Are you serious?

College dorm plus Intel Create and Share Camera Pack = Great practical joke + Severe pwnage

I did ... webcam32 software lets you stream it over a webserver (I just used IIS). Was a cheap $20 webcam too.

All I saw my dog do was sleep. 😉 He didn't seem to like being locked up in my room all day so I didn't do it for long.

How small is your house that only one camera woudl be able to track whereever they may be?

reminiscent of something martin gardner might think of.

Hm...webcams are only about $20.00 and the software looks like it would be easy to setup. Anyone else ever tried something like this?

what software did you have in mind ? LIke I said, webcam32 did the trick for me even though getting it to work with my router/firewall was a bit tricky.

The principle is pretty much the same.... a co-worker did it. the webcam only turn itself on when there's movement.

so pretty much we only get a shot of the empty couch until the dog actually jump onto the couch.

Are you sure it was working and not just displaying a static pic? 🙂
