hey guys, i recently just bought a fujitsu lifebook A6110. i formatted it and installed XP before i even booted up once in vista. i later found out that there is no driver supported for XP for my laptop. so i formatted again and used the recovery disc they gave me, which installed all of my drivers.

i cant seem to view my webcam in vista. maybe im just stupid and am looking in the wrong place. when i was using xp, there was an icon in My Computer to view my webcam and take picture etc, but now in vista, there is no icon for my web cam. is it in a different place or what? i can view it in programs such as windows live messenger and skype while chatting with friends, but not through windows.

any help would be appreciated, thanks

Does your third party software have something to open? I know Logitech does. And, Im sure you've done this but gotta ask, you got the right driver?

If that doesnt help, you might want to visit the manufacturers website and/or forums. If youre having this issue, others probably are too.

No doubt you have resolved this issue by now. But just in case......

After using the restore disk, you need to locate the "Clickme" icon that has been placed on your desktop by restore. "Clickme" provides for installation of the fingerprint sensor, webcam & one or two other things (I forget). After that, you should find among your five CD disks (which came with your computer) the WebCam application CD. After installing from that CD you will finally see the WebCam initiation Icon on the Desktop. And yes, the WebCam works fine.

I've never seen a webcam show up in My Computer. That must have been due to some sort of custom OEM software that came with the webcam. It certainly isn't a standard windows feature.

If you have a copy of AMCAP.EXE installed (comes with most webcams and video-capture cards, it's an MS tool), then you should be able to select the webcam and enable viewing, and take snapshots.

Oh yes, and if you're still interested in using WINXP OS then the driver for the Vimicro WebCam is found on the Singapore site as: Vimicro_Camera_XP32_V107.zip

When I did my WINXP install I didnt care about the Fingerprnt sensor or WebCam so I didnt even bother to try to load these drivers. (I have since gone back to using VISTA to learn about it & to determine if I can stomach it. Im investigating the possibility of implementing dual [ie, VISTA/XP] boot.)

You may have to go to the ArcSoft website to obtain the WebCam application software that works in WINXP or use some other developers application software. (I suppose also you could just try to use the VISTA code that came on the ArcSoft WebCam Companion2 CD - I wouldnt think that it would work, but Ive been pleasantly surprised already that some VISTA software works also in XP.)
