What would you change and why?
Rosewill FB-01, old case, added 92 mm fans, Themaltake front, Antec rear, (no cost, parts pile).
Corsair CX430, $21 after rebate.
AMD Phenom II X2 545 from upgrade "free"
Will use AMD heatpipe cooler or cheap aftermarket (undecided)
Asrock 880GM-LE ($55 shipped)
AVENIR DDR3 1333 2GB X 2 $17 shipped
Asus DVD/RW $20 (purchased)
Card reader $7
Samsung F3 1TB (uncle request 1TB, $60 shipped)
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium OEM $100
Uncle D will cover Operating System and Hard Drive and probably add $40 for build.
Case, fans, PSU, CPU, memory, DVD/RW, and card reader are my "gift"
Uncle wants a video card, I can get an MSI N520GT 1GB DDR3 64 bit for $37 before rebate ($10), will this keep him happy and be sufficient.
The other options I see (as better) are are a 64 bit GT430 1 GB DDR2 or refurbished EVGA GT 240 512 MB 128 bit DDR5, both about $45 shipped.
There are only two uncertainties I see. Uncle wants fast, which is why I chose to use 545, I think a dual core should be fine for email, web browsing, and video.
Second is 64 bit video card, they sell enough of these, it will be better than a 210/220 (right?)
Uncle said to use cheapest case I have, does not need Blu-Ray.
I hope to have him upgrade 4 year old monitor to 1080p if he uses it for more than websurfing/email (which he might, old rig is P4, DDR memory 768 MB, XP, may be 478).
I am telling him he can get an equivalent prebuilt for $360-$400 and add video card.
So, any errors to haunt me? He is worth it.
