What would you change and why?
Rosewill FB-01, old case, added 92 mm fans, Themaltake front, Antec rear, (no cost, parts pile).
Corsair CX430, $21 after rebate.
AMD Phenom II X2 545 from upgrade "free"
Will use AMD heatpipe cooler or cheap aftermarket (undecided)
Asrock 880GM-LE ($55 shipped)
AVENIR DDR3 1333 2GB X 2 $17 shipped
Asus DVD/RW $20 (purchased)
Card reader $7
Samsung F3 1TB (uncle request 1TB, $60 shipped)
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium OEM $100

Uncle D will cover Operating System and Hard Drive and probably add $40 for build.
Case, fans, PSU, CPU, memory, DVD/RW, and card reader are my "gift"

Uncle wants a video card, I can get an MSI N520GT 1GB DDR3 64 bit for $37 before rebate ($10), will this keep him happy and be sufficient.
The other options I see (as better) are are a 64 bit GT430 1 GB DDR2 or refurbished EVGA GT 240 512 MB 128 bit DDR5, both about $45 shipped.

There are only two uncertainties I see. Uncle wants fast, which is why I chose to use 545, I think a dual core should be fine for email, web browsing, and video.
Second is 64 bit video card, they sell enough of these, it will be better than a 210/220 (right?)

Uncle said to use cheapest case I have, does not need Blu-Ray.
I hope to have him upgrade 4 year old monitor to 1080p if he uses it for more than websurfing/email (which he might, old rig is P4, DDR memory 768 MB, XP, may be 478).

I am telling him he can get an equivalent prebuilt for $360-$400 and add video card.
So, any errors to haunt me? He is worth it.

Have you guys considered a pre-built? Check Dell Outlet.

Does he need the video card? If not gaming, just save money and use the integrated video.

If you can still pick up the hard drive for $60, buy it NOW! Supposedly HDD prices will go up sharply for the next 2 months or so. I'm already seeing the F3 at Newegg for around $77 shipped. Alternately... your uncle wants fast? How about an SSD? Does he actually need the 1TB space or was it chosen for speed?

Is that RAM supposed to be Avexir from Mwave? See this thread first before shopping there.

I've never heard of Avenir, not sure if it is worth it when you can get a 4GB stick of Crucial for $22. No, single-channel versus dual-channel will not make a difference for this build.

The rest looks fine to me, you've got some good deals in there.

Ok , Uncle has concluded that it is time to upgrade or replace.
He knows I like to build computers and is self declared "cheap". I have told him he should get a prebuilt (newegg has a Lenovo AMD 620/4 GB/ 1 TB for $359).

I have offered to build one. HE wants 1 TB (cause they come that way now), he wants a video card because they are better.

It will be an AMD because I have the Phenom II X2 545 I bought to overclock, or I can swap the Athlon II X3 440 from my old rig, or I can trade.
Basically if I didn't have a CPU would go Sandy Bridge Pentium or AMD A8/A6.

That said does anyone see a problem with these con\mponts for a basic web browser/ email/occassional video box?
Of the choices the GT520 should work well enogh and keep him happy. Yes?

I also have an E6700 3.2 and a G43 motherboard.

Ahh, the good ol' combination of "cheap" and "knows just enough to be dangerous". If there is no hope of educating him about better alternatives (such as buying a complete system), then I'd say what you have is decent (except for the RAM).
