web proxy?

Why am I receiving the message "You can't post to this page."?

You're reading Slashdot from behind a web proxy that allows connections from any host. This functionality has been abused. Therefore, comments are not allowed to be posted from this address until the proxy is better secured. Please notify your Proxy Admin.

OK so, in English, what can i do about this? 😕

If you are using IE, go to tools| internet options | connections | lan settings | make sure use a proxy server is unchecked. If it is, then your ISP must be running some kind of proxy that you can't avaoid.

It's likely that your ISP is using a proxy server to accelerate your web content and to save their bandwidth. Go to WhatIsMyIP.com and it'll show you the source IP of your Internet requests. If that doesn't match the address assigned by your ISP, you're going through a proxy. Probably not much you can do about it, unfortunately.
