Web pages and emails load slowly after upgrade from 8 to 8.1

After upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1, Web pages and emails load slowly. A 2nd level Microsoft Support person has tried to resolve this, but so far, he hasn't. The slowness reminds me of modem dial-up loading speeds where it may take approximately 10 seconds to load pages! I am not connected to a router and have a direct wire connection.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

Thanks

Welcome to the forums WCarp. did you make sure all your drivers are compatible?

I reinstalled all of the motherboard drivers with the latest from ASUS after the upgrade on an ASUS Sabertooth 990FX Rev 2.0 board. My Internet "speed" is not an issue, it's just that it takes a long time to load Webpages and emails for some reason. I wonder if there is a DNS problem?

Thanks

The 2nd level MS Support person told me that he had checked last Friday and I had the latest. I can check again for drivers but as I mentioned, the Internet "speed" is not an issue just the initial loading of Webpages and emails.

Thanks

I have installed the very latest LAN drivers and restarted the computer and the load times are still slow.

Win 8 and 8.1 use the same browser on my systems, and I have noted no difference in web page/email loading speed. Web page loading speed depends a lot on Temp Internet Files. Delayed email and webpages can also be a AV function/activity.

All of the browsers are slow to load Webpages--IE11, Firefox, and Chrome. IE 11 comes with 8.1 so I have version 11. The issue also affects Outlook so the underlying problem is affecting everything concerning the time it takes for things from the Web to appear on the screen.

I disabled my security software (Bitdefender Total Security) and things still loaded slowly--it may take around 10 seconds or so or more at times to completely load a Webpage. Also, since many other people are experiencing the same issue, it doesn't appear to be related to my security software but I have emailed their Support department about the issue anyway and they are still researching it.

I tried disabling "Automatically detect settings" in LAN Settings but that didn't help.

Thanks

Can you try restarting, then resetting your Router? Also if you can you should try to see if anything improves with a different model router.

you use Bitdefender?! That's the main issue!

I have a 3 year license / 3 PCs for Bitdefender AV Plus and I never use that buggy POS program!

I switched to NOD32

Disabling Bitdefender wouldn't make a diff. as well, you need to get rid of that crap with the proper uninsall tool to remove the registry remnants

Is it a laptop? If so, have you tried bringing it to somewhere where's there's free wi-fi, to see if the problem is with the Ethernet settings/drivers? Might help narrow things down.

I don't have a router. As for Bitdefender, I have to send them a log file for them to look at.

Doing a fresh install of Windows 8.1 is probably more reliable than an upgrade, also. When I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7, everything was slower, but a fresh install of Windows 7 fixed it.

Bitdefender is the best when it comes to virus detection and removal, but is the most buggiest piece of junk I have ever used

The computer is a desktop computer. Yes, Bitdefender is highly rated in a number of ways but I have had a few issues with the program.

I have sent the Bitdefender log file to Support so I will see what they have to say hopefully soon.

Thanks

I would disable everything that starts up with autoruns (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx), that isn't MS related, or is a driver for your wifi--if you have one).
Then try some tests, and see how it goes.
If it doesn't go well, then you have other issues, and I guess I would do a fresh install of the OS at this point.

If it did go well, then enable the other stuff one by one, (requires a reboot after you enable it) and you should be able to find what the cause is.
