That $50 free towards Adwords has been great for many of my own customers looking to give the program a whirl.

BTW, hello AgaBoogaBoo, yet another Anandtech host.

Sorry but 1.5gb bandwidth per month???.....get real....

Usually customers that need more have a justifiable reason, in which case the cost isn't usually an issue 🙂

If this is for personal use however, it might be a little different. Feel free to contact sales if you want a custom package.

All this arguing over hosting makes me happy that I got the free 500/10gb from 1and1 till 07 I'll worry about costs then 😉

The real question, at least for me, is whether either Cernax or Made2Own offer me 1000mb storage with 24GB bandwidth and firebird database support...since MySQL 5 isn't out yet...for less than the $4.95 a month I'm paying now.

Or I might be paying $4.95 quarterly. It says per month, but it used to say per quarter in one place, and my account balance doesn't seem to drop every month...then again it also didn't increase the last time I paid it; I need to ask about that.

You know, I've been lurking here for so long it actually surprised me when I realized I would have to register to reply to this. Oh well, hopefully my future posts will be less...stupid.

Sorry 🙁 , just MySQL and PostgreSQL

Of over 15000 web sites I host, less than a thousand will use over 1.5 gigs of bandwidth.

My -total- bandwidth consumption per month is around 6700 gigs, that's -less than half a gig as in .5 as in 500 megs- of transfer on AVERAGE per site hosted.

So 1.5 gigs of bandwidth is plenty for a -lot- of web sites out there, and TOO MUCH for many.

People just see these OMFGWTFLOL 200 gigs per month!!!!!!!!!!!!! for 73 cents!!!!!!!!!!11! deals and just go nuts, when in fact they use jack for bandwidth.

And go ahead, get one of those really cheap plans and chunk a forum on there that pulls 20 or 30 gigs per month and see how long it lasts, it might go a month or so but once that server gets full you'll likely find your site offline due to "overusage of cpu" or other problem. I've done this before as a gag, bought one of those plans something like 4 gigs space and 40 gigs bandwidth plans and I threw a copy of Fedora Core 1 (this was a while back) on there and had it linked from a few places, the site lasted 6 days, pulled 11 gigs of data, used around 2 gigs of space I was "abusing the cpu resources" sure, file downloads are really hard on your average web server 😀

Don't trust that thing too much there junior.

I've got 92 servers full of customers and 4 different domains that are used for dns, not -just- dixiesys.com but thank you for playing the "trying to make Gary look like a liar" game, better luck next time. Also quite a few resellers use their own dns names and not ours, which also increases the inaccuracy of those reports.

Yep the account was cut off at right near the 12 gig mark of data transfer after about 6 days, go figure, uptime was crap and server loads were routinely over 10 when I checked it. Pretty funny stuff. But it was $5 per year (yes year) for the service so oh well, it made for some good laughs.

Looks like this thread has gone way off track from the OP - I was only making the point that 1.5 gigs of bandwidth is actually quite acceptable for quite a lot of web sites and is hardly to be scoffed at, and that buying 100 when you need 1 is just silly.

I was one of AgaBoogaBoo's first customers and he gave me a great deal on a very small hosting plan (as I don't need too much)

Great hosting service

though everyone got a lil off topic it was understandable and i still read through it all.

within the ocming months i am going to be lookin for more in a host/plan but for right now this seems perfect for a small site, some pictures of friends, some pics to link to from ATOT, ebay auction pic hosting, and a webcam!
looking through cernax now!
thanks for the headsup!

Well since you called me Junior I will continue. When I google dixiesys I find far less results then when I google made2own. I also find that most of your google results are complaints and that you lost all of your customers data on a hard drive failure on "the only server that didn't have backups." I decided to carry on my journey to your forums and it seems you have the same problems there. How do you have time to post here and blatantly avoid your customers on your own forums?

Links for my claims:

http://forums.dixiesys.com/index.php?showtopic=6676

It's pretty bad when the first topics you see are

Is the help desk system working?
Is anyone working here anymore?
HELP! HELP! Where is my web page?

Made2Own, I think it's best to discuss this outside the forum. I'm sure you can do this over a Private Message or email contact.

Cheers 🙂

Welp, when you make changes things have adjustment periods, new helpdesk, new billing system, we're in the middle of trying to close down old Ensim based servers as quickly as time allows, training new people, and in the middle of it all I have to go out of town to be with my dad while his lung is removed due to lung cancer.

We had a server that managed to blow out both of it's harddrives at the same time, you mirror data and then both drives die, go figure the odds on that one, but hey, if something can go wrong, it will. We had backups but they only went so far, plus more than a few folks "opt out" of the backups because they don't like the backups counting against their space allotments.

I'm the last person to claim perfection, crap happens, and it seems to always happen at the worst possible time. You just put your head down and get through it as best you can. This thread isn't about me, it's about some good deals at another host, and it shouldn't be about you either, this has turned into what amounts to little more than a thread crapping on the original topic of some special pricing at cernax.com and someone with 1 post had to come in here spouting off about something else.

So now I'll return now to my original point - don't knock the 1500 megs of transfer on the offer, you might be surprised just how far 1500 megs will take you. If you'd like to attack my good name any further you can email me or perhaps, just start a thread on my forum if you wish. Or here, or hell who cares where.

wow.

first of all, you are a junior (look to the left side of the screen, under your nickname). secondly, what does the total amount of google search have to do with anything? do you really think that larger amount of google hits = better? and are you really saying that all of those hits are about your hosting company?

the kicker, however, is that you showed your limited knowledge in how the hosting world works when you questioned Gary's statement by showing the link to 'the total domains hosted by dixiesys' at webhosting.info. you really think the numbers there are accurate don't you? well, i'm sorry to say this, but you just destroyed your own company's credibility right there, my friend.

anyway, sorry for this, i just had to say something. good luck with your business AgaBoogaBoo! 🙂

Guys, just ignore Made2own. They try to bad talk everyone. While that works for some hosts, others are just far superior to them and they don't understand that. I have gone through the whole battle with them trying to explain that webhosting.info is not accurate at all and that the number of google results is meaningless. I'd question some of their tactics. Also, to the customers, remember that you get what you pay for (whether immediately or later on down the road). This thread is not the place to continue on with such an arguement as it was meant for a hot deal; not bickering.

Ah, my apologies, I did that a bit quickly.

We have horde and squirrel mail. NeoMail development isn't continuing so we made the decision to not support it.

1.5 gig is plenty for personal websites...

I have my own domain name and hosting that allows me 1.5 gig transfer, I barely reach 500mb transfer, i think my email attachment are more than anything...

typical personal websites don't usually need DB and others... they just have pictures and files that one share with their friends... thus, there is really no need to have more than that.

I could however use a lil bit more space than 150mb... but what i get is what i pay for ...
