I have been using this for about 5 months now, and it SUCKS!
Unlimited access my arse. You can only go to sites that they want you to go to, and even then can only access specific pages at those sites. You end up with 0.00006% (at best) Internet access of available pages. You can not type in www.whateveryouwant.com with the basic free plan. Even access to sites like ESPN, will only allow you to access less than 0.0005% of their pages. What's even worse is that it doesn't save user names and passwords to any sites, and sites like e8ay may require you to enter your username and password a dozen times during a visit. Try typing out that info with a very limited telephone style keypad, and you too will end up giving up, and saying screw this!

Actually, ATT's cell phone service in my area (most of flat, unobstructed Florida), is terrible too. It's just like the guy on the Sprint commercial says. Static, and breakups to the point of not understanding what is being said. Look's like I will be paying the $70 early cancellation fee with these jerks, and going back to "Real" cell phone service like I used to have with several of ATT's competitors. When it says I'm roaming in my own home, you know they don't have there act together.

RobsTV,

I'm currently using a Palm VIIx to access Etrade, paying $49.95/month for unlimited access, am hoping to use pocketnet for the same purpose & add a cell phone to boot, this will cut $20/month off my expenses & the coverage can't be any worse then Palm.net (sure hope not).

The biggest problem you will have using this for Etrade, (if they allow full access), will be when making transactions. I don't know what your username and password will be, but try typing Pliablemoose a dozen or so times with a telephone over a 5 minutes span, and you will get the idea. If it's just updates you want, nearly all cell services now allow limited text messaging for free, which will do the same things. Even many pagers will keep you updated on stocks.

The current state of the wireless web is not ready for prime time yet. Hopefully, full access and ease of use, will be just around the corner, but for now it's just a gimmick to get you to sign up for cheezey Cell phone service.

I have AT&T wireless in New York City and Northern NJ and I must say it stinks. I had it with my last phone and said never again and then there was a "great offer" like this and I said maybe it was just my phone....NOPE! I am on the train in Penn Station and I see other people on their cell phones but I get no service! I have even asked from time to time what service they have and never once was it AT&T. This is just one example!

Do yourself a favor in this area and stay away from AT&T!

By the way I am using a NOkia 8260

Yep, my Brother has a Nokia with ATT in Ft Lauderdale, and I have the Ericsson R289LX with ATT in the Tampa area, and we are very familiar with poor ATT reception, even though we have no large buildings or obsticles to interfere with reception. You soon find that perfect corner spot in your home or office that allows you to somewhat maintain a conversation. Favorite words you quickly learn to say are: "hold on a second while I move to a location that works". That is, if they other party doesn't hang up on you first. Common words you hear are: "hello, hello?, is someone there, I can't understand you, what?", while you are screaming back "HELLO, HOLD ON WHILE I MOVE". then click, they hang up.....Truely, truely SUCKS...

Ahh, the familiar woes of AT&T... Out where I live, Long Island, it is quite adequate. Yet once you move into the city, it's terrible, absolutely TERRIBLE. Stay away from the AT&T service. I had the Ericsson 280 phone before I switched to my StarTac using Verizon. The phone is a good deal, but there is limited surfing. It comes in handy once in a while, but overall, do not go with it. Wait until the next generation of Internet phones come out IMO.

I traded nearly 1/2 mil in stocks last year, and did 40% over my Palm VIIx, whic doesn't connect in buildings, have to step outside already. Am not happy with my Palm's cost of service, or reliability (am on my 3rd replacement in less than 1 year).

Work for Fed Gov & they're strict about other than work use of phone/internet, so I'm stuck with wireless technology for now. Had used a notebook & hooked up in breakroom & got crapped on, great thing about being a fed employee, everyone is your boss, something about folks seeing stock trades = to their annual salary or something...

Ran through ETrade's WAP demo, & the interface is very similar to Palm.net. Will try it for a year & see am sure I'll trade up after service contract is over.

Went for the Mitsu T250, as the screen is largest (as is the phone), pros for the T250 seem to be it's screen size, con's are the service/signal (mine already suck), batttery life when using as a cell phone, heat & size.

Not easy being an "early adopter" of tech, but gotta feed the bulldog.

RobsTV, how did u know my etrade password is pliablemoose? 😉

Just a heads up on the Mitsubishi phone.

It has tons of features and it looks cool, but the standard battery sucks and it's not exactly easy to navigate.

I concur on the ATT wireless service reception, it sucks.

ok this is getting a little off topic, but what is a good cell phone service? I'm currently on verizon but I'm thinking of changing. I was thinking of AT&T but now I'm having second thoughts.

Here in SoCal we have Cingular (orange ink blot formerly known as PacBell), AT&T Wireless, SprintPCS, and Verizon.

I detest Cingular, very bad reception in alot of buildings, especially apartment buildings. I had them for a year and most people have them because you can call mobile to mobile with any other cingular phone for free so it's popular with the teenagers.

SprintPCS, ah my old friend. I had them for three years. They started out great. Wonderful plans, service credit when switching to new phones, no activation fee, wonderful CS, timely CS. Now they plain out suck. As with the Cingular phone I couldn't get a signal in some buildings, my latest phone the Samsung 3500 was good at picking up a signal in the most places but I still got alot of dropped calls. They have dual band service but it costs if you lost digital and need to go analog, that's the bad thing about an "all digital network". They got rid of the service credit, activation fee went from none to $25 to $35 (even for switching to a new phone, but I hear you can complain and get it credited), plans are simi-okay but the CS do not explain them well and I signed up thinking it was something when it was something entirely different, the CS hate all people who call in and are very rude (I have a nice phone personality and they still treat me like dirt), the wait time for a CS is usually 10 mins to 15 mins and I was once on hold for over ONE HOUR! They ofen mischarge you. Oh they don't offer any nice benefits to long time customers.

Verizon, I have had no experience with but I hear they offer service credit for long term customers. They were formerly Airtouch which I hear was not so good. Their signals are iffy too, my friend with a Star Tac loses signals in building too.

AT&T is my new provider. They have great CS, less than 10 secs most of the time and at their busiest 15mins. Very courteous CS, helpful too, explains things throughly. The offer old customers benefits, upgrading to a new phone won't cost you a reactivation charge. Alot of their phone rebates also include current customers not just new ones. I get better singals in some places than my 3500. At certain apartment buldings where Cingular and Sprint don't work I get AT&T. Large area of coverage for a Home area. Tri-band with no charge for switching between either. Good plans and it looks like they don't charge you one month in advance like all the others.
