Web Design rip off?

A friend of mine just paid a guy $4000 up front for a website for his
car audio business.

Site is not up yet, but I will be sure to post it for review when it is.

Do you think that price is a little steep for web work?

😕

All depends on what kind of functionality that site has.

For $4000 he better make it able so that people can order off of his site, require little maintenence, update easily, look nice, etc...

Unless you're asking 2advanced, $4000 may be 2much, although I have heard of people paying for more for smaller businesses (and yet they never ask me to do them =0/ )

well I'll be sure to post it once it is up.

It better be pretty functional with that price.

The price also does not include monthly maintenance charges, as the guy will
be swapping out images and updating news and events often.

I actually know one of the web developers from 2advanced. Very nice guy, but I find at times he was a playa. He was part of the counter-strike clan I was in =)

pricey yes,

also when I asked my friend what the web guy was going to do...it sounded
like he didn't get many answers.

My friend is very PC illiterate, and knows nothing about web design or anything
like it.

I told him I was going to have it reviewed by AT once it was live, and he was like....
"uh oh"......."Yes, I need the experts on the #1 tech forum to make me realize I just got ripped off
and am a dumbass".....duh

that's a lot for a website. i charge $40/hr for the work I'm doing now for someone. I thought that's alot

We were taking bids for an ecommerce site based on .net architecture and it was going to be around 30k. It all depends on how complicated the site is, period.

$4k isn't much I don't think but that $5 template site looks like a $5 template. Shows how cheap a company is, bad investment if you ask me.
I dunno, maybe because I live in NYC and things are more expensive here but I've got friends who charge $3k just to do the visual/logo/character design aspect of a site and outsource programmers/developers for the scripting stuff which is extra $. Seems like $4k is pretty much the norm around here and often a lot more.

I like your logo....its cool.
and that is a good price.

Logo was free. My partners mother is a graphics designer. We gave her a general idea and she gave us a bunch of choices. We tweaked the one we liked until we got the final product.

If anyone needs a site designed pm me and we can talk. I can get you in touch with our web guy(one who did our site).

Wow, $4000? Does that site give out complementary blowjobs as well?

But like others have said - it depends on the nature and content of the site. If it's highly flash/user interactive, I can see how it was $4K. Not for a simple product page though. And $4K better include a state of the art custom shopping cart as well, and not that crap osCommerce.

JUST FSCKING TYPE "TOO" ALREADY. GOD DAMNIT.

damn i need more exposure on this site. I would've done it for A LOT cheaper and prolly a lot better!

4K seems reasonable though if youre paying for programming such a shopping cart andstuff.
