Yesterday I upgraded my Winzip from old, trusty 8.0 to the new 11.x and I thought I could open multiple zip files with it. Couldn't get it to do that, so I searched Google and found a link that I though was going to explain how to get Winzip to do multiples.
Well you guessed it: Immediately I got some kind of spyware. The background image on my monitor was replaced by a blue screen with a yellow warning: YOU NEED to SCAN FOR SPYWARE! SPYWARE DETECTED! And then within 5 seconds, it installed it's own applet telling me it was 'scanning my system for spyware.' I immediately closed that applet and uninstalled it from the Control Panel. But I didn't write down what it was called so now I'm kind of in the dark. Can't remember name of the program.
Now, I have my desktop back. I scanned for virus and found none. AdAware 2007 is currently scanning for spyware.
I actually thought I was free of this crap until just now I hit Google up for another search on something. Google finds what I want each time. When I hover the mouse cursor over the link, the proper link shows in the bottom left of the Internet Exploder. **But** when I click on any one of these properly-identified links, I go to some other web page trying to sell me crap. Always a different page, too.
So I am desperate to get rid of this obviously. So far, AdAware has found only 19 things but its got a long ways to go.
Can anyone identify this spyware by my description?
