who cares? youre there to honor the dead and remember their lives, not judge a fashion show.
not speaking directly to you sixone.

I was just wondering if it was a cultural thing, or a taboo that's fallen by the wayside, is all.

i know. just giving my opinion, is all.

a red jacket or hat or something isn't bad. A red clubbing dress isn't the best idea though.....especially if you're the known mistress/gold-digger.

In the Western cultures, it is traditionally considered disrespectful to wear anything other than black or other dark, somber colors. There are growing exceptions to this as society becomes more lax on cultural mores involving clothing, as well as people specifically citing in their last wishes that they do not want their funeral to be somber. However, unless otherwise specified, I think it is more tasteful to wear black. I think it's a little sad that the traditions of honoring others via appearance are disappearing.

I wonder if at least some people started wearing red because there's that commercial about being different (I forget what it's for) and one of the scenes is of a lady wearing red at a funeral procession while everyone else is wearing black.

As long as the women weren't wearing flashy outfits, I don't see anything wrong with it. The important thing shouldn't be what they're wearing, but that they came to pay their respects and acted respectful while they were there. I remember having to go out to buy black outfits specifically for funerals when I was a kid. Maybe these women didn't have the time or the money to go buy something to wear (if they didn't already have a black outfit) and wore something else that they thought looked nice and not too over the top.

These women were all very tastefully dressed, two had red jackets on over something else, and one had a dark vest over a red shirt.
