Wearing Multiple Collars: father/son argument

I've been having this discussion with my dad that wearing multiple collars in a layered clothing situation is a fashion no-no (ie. collared sweater with collar polo)

He seems to think otherwise and today linked me a picture while he was at brooks brothers as an "i win".

I think brooks brothers just put two shirts on the same hanger by accident.

Can anybody help me find a credible source that points out this no-no? Or is this even a no-no? Much help is appreciated I haven't been able to find anything!

Thanks in advance.

Why don't you just let your dad dress how he wants? It's his choice, not yours.

What sort of collars? If its those collars that lay flat that some sweaters and jackets have, those are fine with collared shirts.

What I meant was he must be dressing right after all to attract mates.

This is a more recent development.

with either a polo or regular dress shirt collared regularly, not popped..

How do you even put on a shirt ontop of a shirted collar?

It's a big enough bitch to pull out my collar from a V-neck or a coat.

Collared sweater/overshirt plus collared shirt is fine.
Layering several collard shirts (like polos) is a no go.

If you want another color below your polo get colored undershirts.

I hate collars. All collars suck because they try to choke you. All shirts should be Vneck.

That's why you do what I do (the metrosexual approach) and never button the top 2 or 3 buttons of your shirt!

I don't have issues with exposing my hairy chest (it's barren) though, so...

Depends on the colors. I wear polos with a collared sweater a lot but really depends on how much they go together. If it's obvious that they clash then no

This is the photo that he felt validated him.

Anyways, it did appear there was some consensus that sweaters with a polo is at least okay, but when he forwarded this picture I feel that he may be heading down a dark path.
