wearing headdresses: officially Not Cool anymore

Why, oh why, are you wearing a football helmet??? You are vulgar and disrespectful to ALL descendants of New World settlers. You have no right to wear it. The headdress is earned by world-class players, NOT worn by women or those who have not earned it. I am sooo tired of others thinking they can just take what is not theirs for a ‘fashion’ statement.

Thank you for going full retard.

(I know why you did it, and it proves your point perfectly)

Can't read OP link, is this in reference to "insulting" and politically incorrect Halloween costumes? Cause you know, it's ok to have a costume of a sexy German girl in a lederhosen or a French maid, but god damnit if you try to have a sexy Indian girl.

Why are non-Europeans allowed to wear western clothing? I am sooo tired of others thinking they can just take what is not theirs for a ‘fashion’ statement.

Pic related, an insensitive bigot.

i read a youtube thread about this maybe a month ago, one random dude getting all irritated about how insulting it is for him when you wear "indian military regalia", and a whole bunch of other people, many indian themselves, telling him to chill out.

if we want to stretch it, things such as ties and suits derive from flags, coats of arms and banners, but they don't carry the same meaning today as they did in the past.

damn why doesn't windows have an autocorrect for the word "teh".

Hey, they can go to war just like any man can. Let's take sex out of it then. Go to war, kill X number of people, then you get your headdress. No other requirements.

Let's get with it ladies. You're a mere dozen dead terrorists away from being the belle of the ball. Oh, not interested anymore? That's too bad, what with you being all equal to men and stuff.

so i guess Rehana gets to wear headdresses now.

Disagree at your own peril

Wear a medal of honor you haven't earned and see how that works for you.
So when the kid shows up to trick or treat and I spot the light saber rather than handing out the loot I should get down in his face and scream "You're no Jedi! You didn't EARN that!" and slam the door in his face?

It's a costume. People of normal intelligence understand that people in costume aren't claiming to be real zombies, Jedi, Batmen, Revolutionary War or Civil War soldiers, nor Native American warriors.

You forgot "exalted football players" and other accomplished athletes which may have their headgear imitated.

The high school I went to in the 80's had full headdress's for the mascot, and all the Majorettes in the band had full length ones that were real eagle feather ones at the time.

One of my cousins who was a couple years than I at the time was head of the cheerleaders and was the indian maiden chick at the time, they had a whole ceremony thing they did before ever basketball game.

She was hotter than this chick, had a slight crush on my cousin at the time.

They were meticulously cared for, there must have been at least 30 of them they ordered from a tribe out west once.

Just a story I guess 🙂

Carry on.

I'd heard things had really went downhill, after hearing that band it has.

Used to be one of the best in the state in the late 70's, that sucked badly.

Bit lame these days it appears, the town used to be huge GM/Delco manufacturing area and they have been bulldozed, the town has been dying off for decades.

Distant relative of mine.

The city is named for Chief William "Adam" Anderson, whose mother was a Delaware Indian (Lenape) and whose father was of Swedish descent. Chief Anderson's Indian name was Kikthawenund (spelled in a variety of ways) meaning "making a noise" or "causing to crack."[citation needed] The Delaware village was known as Anderson's Town, though the Moravian Missionaries called it "The Heathen Town Four Miles Away." Anderson was also known as Andersonton before being formally organized as Anderson.

OK, done blithering 🙂

So there are still indian warriors earning them? how?
It's part of the tribes heritage. We've taken everything they had and destroyed their culture. Now, apparently fashionistas want to exploit their memories for a passing fad. Doesn't that seem a bit, disdainful?

No it doesn't.

People who earned a medal of honor didn’t do it for a little bit of metal (to use your example).

Of course it doesn't. However, we're talking about public perception. You can thumb your nose at society all you want, youts have a history of doing so, until you find yourself in a situation where society abandons you.

What? The public thinks less of a war hero because some kid wears something similar to him?

I'm not seeing the logic here.

It'll be those "youts" that will be society. They aren't going to be abandoned for fashion choices they made whilst young.
