Wearable Computing

See, This interests Me, I like the Idea of being able to take a computer with me wherever I go. I imagine though, that the wearable PC would not be very fast, if you could get it going a lot faster though, and hook up some virtual gloves, Playing a game like BF1942 would be awsome, add some sensors for neck rotation, and a sensor maybe in the feat to move forward back or strife. It would really imerse you in the game.

FYI - The April 2002 edition of Scientific American Magazine had an article discribing a similar system.

One of the main problems would be ergonomics. Would you be able to walk around and use the computer? And if you could, would there be a danger of walking into people / traffic when your attention is diverted? Input / Output would be tricky.

I took the survey. good questions, but personally I think the described device is totally the wrong idea.

I think wearable computing will definitely play a huge part in peoples' lives in the near future BUT NOT in the form described: WearPC sounds like it's basically somewhere between a desktop personal computer and a pda, except wearable.
I can tell you for sure that's not where wearable computing is going. nobody wants that.

here's what I see: wearble computers will have very little interface with the wearer, and low computing power. Instead of being a replacement for a desktop PC or PDA, they will perform automatic communication with other computing devices, usually without the wearer even being aware; they may also perform simple specific tasks that the user requests.

The visual display would be similar to the heads up display used in military aircraft, but would be the same as eye glasses in appearance. The SciAm magazine described the view that would be displayed as you walked down a street in NYC. Your exact location would be known to the wearable PC via GPS input. As you look at a restaurant, the menu would be displayed and theater?s movie schedule displayed. You could then make a reservation while you walk.

In the far future, expect implantation of the devices in the body for ESP, intelligence enhancement and biological function sensing. Talk to people while they are far away or simply share thoughts, read a book with your eyes shut, have a doctor examine and cure you while your sleeping at home, have virtual sex with an endless number of beautiful women (females can create their own fantasies), enjoy a fine dinner while eating a hamburger, solve physics, engineering and math problems without effort?
