Just saw that on GMA and my first question was, did they cite the driver for not wearing the seat belt? Of course no one on the morning talk show asked the same question as they are about as air-headed as that driver. And no, I hate shows like GMA, but the wife insists before getting out into the morning traffic.

I don't think they cited him for anything since he died...

Man that dude was flying, pretty nightmare stuff.

Fell asleep at the wheel twice. One on the Alcan, rolled our Van onto the side. The Other hit the wake-up-strips before almost plowing into the trees. those things are a lifesaver. Scary what if shit.

As I said, Good Morning America indicated that he was still alive. Had he been reported dead I would not have made the comment I made, but rather he 'got what he deserved'.

I'd say a surprising number of people still don't wear seatbelts. The other morning in Boston, we were sitting at a window overlooking a T intersection, and I lost count of the number of drivers coming to a stop without a seatbelt.

Did you even read the article in OP? it clearly says...
  • Driver Yuttapong Hawilee lost control of the vehicle and swerved across 4 lanes
  • Rescuers arrived and rushed him to hospital but he died several hours later
  • Police are now investigating and believe he may have fallen asleep at the wheel
I don't think he survived, genuis status revoked...:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Truck drivers, pilots, delivery drivers, train conductors etc... all get pushed way too far. They are given unrealistic shifts/deadlines and they hardly get a chance to sleep in between each route. Pilots for example sometimes get an 8 hour break between the end of a flight and start of another. From a management perspective, that's fine because you need 8 hours of sleep, but it does not work that way. By the time the pilot finalizes the flight, and gets to the hotel it might be a few hours, then they may need a few hours to prepare for the next flight so they have to get up earlier. So really they get maybe like 3-4 hours of sleep. Transport drivers are in the same boat, they need to deliver a load within say, 10 hours on a route that normally takes 12 if you go the speed limit. That means they can't stop to rest and when they are done their route they have another one with an unrealistic deadline. Though if you run your own trucking company and can run on your own schedule then it makes for a pretty cool job for someone that likes to drive.

Also unpossibiru that the recording was made from a Honda in Thailand. They only drive Toyota. No exceptions.

True but it is very likely that he would still be alive if he had put his seatbelt on. If you are awake enough to start the vehicle you are awake enough to put your seatbelt on.

Oh true there's no excuse for not putting a seatbelt. Just saying this was most likely the cause of him falling asleep.

This was in Thailand.

Thai roads are notorious for being dangerous. Drivers fall asleep often, especially truck and bus drivers. When I was in Thailand I'd be often worried about getting into a car. Those mopeds are insane as well.

The ambulance is a light duty pickup with a cap on it! Everything about that video (post 11) is surreal.

It's sad the guy died, but IMO, not wearing a seat belt or falling asleep while driving fall well within the realm of "get good."
