Wear sunscreen or not?

It's only May, the sun isn't that strong here, but I'm already heavilly tanned from working and walking outdoors. I'll probably get the cancers in the future, but I can't stand rubbing the stuff all over my skin, so avoid putting it on.

Only if I'm going to be outside for a long time.

I'm not going to wear sunscreen for walking out to my car, but if I plan on spending a few hour outside I will.

If I know I'll be spending a large period of time outdoors in the summer, I usually apply some. Though, when I go biking in the summer, I usually forget.

First few days with no shirt, definitely. I only need sun poisoning once in my life. After the base gets established, I'm good to go with nature's protection.

I get burned to hell and back from being in the sun. Even with SPF 50, I'm getting a tan from being outside lately.

I absolutely use it.

Hell yes. I use Kintec spray sunscreen (SPF 30) on my arms, legs and body when I go running or biking and it's sunny, as it's designed to be sweat resistant.

You can get non-greasy sunscreens too, like Aveeno and some types of Coppertone.

It's only taken a couple of bad burns as a kid to make me remember to always put it on if I'm going to be outdoors for more than about 15 min.

According to "experts", you are suppose to put it on, even if you sit close to a window cause the UVA/UVB gets reflected indoors.

Some studies also believe that common ingredients found in sunscreen are carcinogenic, and act like estrogen. However, most sources are green/hippy sites.

I have given up on sun screen, as I can slather spf 50 on every 15 minutes and I still fry. The worst part is that after I fry/peel I am back to being pasty white.

What's your ethnic background?

 Yea, and if you don't wear it, you get exposed to excessive UVA and UVB, which is known to be carcinogenic.

Until I see some peer-reviewed major scientific journals reaching the consensus that sunscreen causes cancer, I'm going to keep putting it on.

Don't you think that the redness and pain of a sunburn is enough incentive to wear something that will prevent it?

I didn't grow up in a tropical or desert locale, and I don't have the generations of adaptation to the sun, so sunscreen is absolutely necessary.

Same here, though that doesn't happen very often. 😛

😕
Glass is opaque to ultraviolet wavelengths.

Yep all the time.

The best I have found is the "No-Ad" version. It works well and is half as much as the name brands.

Never. I don't need it. I don't get sunburned even if I do go outside.

You can still get cancer.

I wear sunscreen if I'm going to be outside for an extended period in the summer. Since I live in WI, I only wear it in the summer because I'm pretty covered in the winter already.

not usually unless i havent gotten a tan yet. after i get started i dont wear it much, unless im going to be outside for a long, long time and it will be really hot. i work outside 2 or 3 afternoons a week where i get a good 3 hours of sunshine, but its in the afternoon/evening and its not that bad.

Apparently not...

I'm not worrying though. If it gets to the point that I have to wear it indoors, and during the winter, I'll just buy a gun.

Odd, anytime I've ever seen a spectral response graph of glass, it's almost always opaque to ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths.

the moisturizer that I use happens to have sunscreen in it. I use that on my face almost every day.

I'll go the extra mile and put sun screen on my arms, neck, shoulders, and legs (if wearing shorts) if I'm going to be outdoors for awhile, but I don't usually bother just for the 15-20 minute bike ride to work... spring/summer only, pretty much, since I always wear long sleeves (whether it's a shirt, sweater, or jacket) in the fall and winter.
