Weak wireless signal

Im using D-link 54g router and 54g pci card.
My router is set it at living room and my room is just right next to it.
My connection is only 11~36bmp and is always low.
I get alot of ping spikes playing game.
Is there way I can improve my wireless connection?
I didnt go 108g connection because my apartment is tiny and didnt think i need better than 54g

Place the router at the highest point possible in the room where it is located.

Try to align the antennas for best performance. This takes some tinkering and trial/error.

Try switching it to another channel. What channel is it on now...6 or 9 I think is D-Link's default if I remember right. Just change that to different ones.

The other problem is that you are using a PCI card which usually get a lot of interference from your computer...lots of metal in the case, etc. I recommend an external USB like the Linksys WUSB-54GP or getting an antenna that you can attach to your PCI card and run to the top of your desk or something.

They also sell high dB attennas at Newegg for around $20. If all else fails, you can always use the old soup can trick 🙂

I'm guessing the problem is that you live in an apartment. Probably lots of noise around you. Not much you can do unfortunately.

take the cover off the antenna.. attach a huge poll of foil onto the antenna...
something i learned in the hood...
