I work retail and opened the store this morning. We open at 9am every Saturday morning and obviously there will always be people who don't know when we open/close etc. That doesn't really bother me. But this makes me laugh now. A lot.

I have a customer call into our store about 45 minutes after open. I answer the phone and greet him and he proceeds to say he's been trying to get a hold of us since 8am! I responded with when we opened and apparently our website had us listed as opening at 8am...according to the customer. I rarely visit the website except to price check items for customers in-store.

He was very persistent on the fact that we were supposed to be open at 8 not 9...not sure why it took him until 945 to finally call in though...but whatever. The kicker was that I decided to check the website so I could notify someone if it were in fact wrong. Turns out he was looking at the hours of operation of our call center to place phone orders. Which was clearly stated next to the time. On top of that it said PST. We're in the central time zone. He was calling my call center at 6am local time.

Anyways just one of the many customer gafs I come across almost daily at work. Critical thinking really needs to be pushed back into the education system. Common sense wouldn't hurt either.

Yup, people are dumb as rocks. It's a small miracle that most dress themselves in the morning, drive off to work, and then make it back home without killing themselves.

I loved working in retail - easy work and tons of hilarious stories. Oh to be 18 again.

My favorite retail story is mine..

I had resigned my position and given my two week notice. Because the manager was a friend of mine, i stayed on for the 2 weeks. Its my last day on the job and me and two other cashiers are sitting around chatting, its about 10 minutes to close, and a customer comes up and asks a question. The customer asks "Which one of you can help me" .. well it being my last 10 minutes, i say "i'd love to, but i'm a little busy. I'm sure one of my co-workers can assist you" .. The customer didn't like that, and asked to speak with the manager. The manager, who is getting ready to close the store, comes up, Asks what he can do.. and the customer tells them i was extremely rude and refused to help them. The manager (who remember, is a friend of mine) looks at me... and says... Really? That's not like him... but... the customer is always right.. so... You're fired. I'm like... OK.. and walk to the back room. He comes back 2 minutes later laughing his head off... and he's like... don't fucking do that to me again. I'm like.. well.. since you fired me.. i promise i wont. The customer wanted to know if we carried an item.. we didn't.. and they left. They probably left happy thinking they got an employee fired.

I don't expect anything good from the corporate world and dislike wishful thinking but if there was thing I could wish for, it would be to work with a manager like this.

:hmm: It would have been better if he had blown up at you and then said 'You're fired!'. Then you start crying - explaining to him how you are the only income for your 4 kids after your wife died and that you need this job.
He remains unmoved 'The customer is always right. If they think you were a little rude then too damn bad for your kids!'

I went to Best Buy yesterday and arrived 1 minute before they opened. I felt all nostalgic when I saw the gathering of people outside the doorway who seemed slightly perturbed that they didn't open 1 minute early to accommodate them

Personally I loved it when customers would tell me we HAD to carry certain items.

I worked at 2 different office supply chains, and at both we had customers that insisted we carried a specific item. Usually it was something we had never heard of, and they just insisted we were lying. Watching them scour the store for an hour before failing was always funny.

This happened a lot with furniture. People found a desk they liked, but wanted a different color. Well, since we're an office store you are SOL. Take the color we have or pick a different desk/chair

What pissed me off is when you'd go into a store looking for a product you KNEW they carried, but they told you they never did. Once I wanted a specific fish food, and I went to the store I bought the previous container at, and the guy there said they didn't have it, and never had it. Never mind that it was the only pet shop around, and I'd never seen any other pet shop in my life. The previous tin must have been a gift from the gods or something... :^S

This is the place for rants and such...? You on the other hand are nothing more than a nuisance that has nothing to offer...

Retail is hilarious. The amount of idiots that come in thinking you care about their problems is amazing. I remember at the age of 18 some 50 year old douche told me he was going to personally sue me because a computer he bought at our store didnt work the way he wanted. I told him to go for it.

i went into a store a few days ago and bought 30 of a certain item. i went back the next day to see if they had any more and asked the clerk where they would be. he said they didnt have them, even though i told him that i had bought them there the day before, so i had to walk over to the shelf and look for them myself. thanks4urhelp, idiot retail worker.
