Weak power supply - Overclocking?

Can a weak power supply affect 6800 gt overclocking? Specifically, I have a athlon64 2800+ oc to 2.06 Ghz, cheap 300 W power supply, 6800 GT @ 391/1120. Won't go any faster on the core and I'm wondering if the power supply is holding me back. In fact, the autoover clock mode won't work in coolbits. It hangs the system. The autodetect feaute tells me I can do 411/1080. That speed shows some flashing empty polygons on the trolls forehead and in the turtles shell. I'm thinking about getting a 450W supply. Has anyone had a better PSU improve overclocking?

You're kidding right? a CHEAP power supply, thats 300w, and you've got a GT and Athlon 64 on it? You could be putting your hardware in peril, consider a better PSU soon, like the Antec True 430.

Geez.... No, I'm not kidding. I've had the PSU for about a year and it ran fine. I am getting a new PSU next week like I said (450 W Allied True). But what I really want to know is does the PSU affect overclocking?

Yes, any overclocking of any component will need high quality psu supplying stable voltages across every rail. go for 420W or higher, so you don't have to worry about upgrades for the next few years.

A high quality 400W will probably yield you better results. In another thread the majority of ppl are reporting majority on the side of Ultra speed ocs on the core. Based on this, I say u need a better psu.
