over here, we're at the mercy of our employer. usually it's 10 days after the first full year and then an extra 5 days after x amount of years with the company.

in the UK, their gov't mandates 28 days paid vacation.
germany, 32 days. france, 36. austria, 38.
and this is on top of national holidays.

Honestly, I would be so much more productive if I had even an extra week of vacation a year. Fucking company won't allow time off if you don't have the vacation time. This year my wife and I could only go to Hawaii for 11 days because of this. *grumble grumble*

14 vacation days a year, not counting personal/sick.
 
I get 20 PTO days, and we can go up to 5 days in the negative without approval. But the crappy thing is we don't get paid for company holidays, of which there are 10. So if I want to get paid I have to take a PTO day. So really I get 10 PTO days unless I don't need the money during those holidays.

Well, that explains why the Frenchman I was working with on a project last year was out for the entire month of May.

24 days of PTO, 4 'freebie' half days to use in the summer if work permits, 11 paid company holidays (plus an extra half day preceding Thanksgiving & xmas), and we're traditionally closed between Christmas and New Year's.

I feel pretty good about my vacation time. I've been here 4 years.

anyway you slice it, europe > US when it comes to PTO.
 
My first job out of college I had 15 days off the first year, and it went up to 20 after 2 years. I've switched jobs since then, I've been at my current company not quite 2 years and I get 25 days I believe. (none of those numbers counting holidays, at both places we got 7 holidays as well).

If you're only getting 10, get a better job.
 
10 vacation (80 hrs, up to 100 total in bank) + 5 sick

After 3 years
15 vacation (120 hrs up to 140 total in bank) + 5 sick

This seems about normal for the smaller places I have worked
(less than 50 employees)

OH, and 6 paid holidays ...

My wife gets like 300 hrs PTO and 10 holidays ... :| (State Gov't)
 
We get 1 week PTO after a year, then 2 weeks PTO after that. Holidays/sick days are not paid and you have to use the PTO days if you want to get paid.
 
technically I started here less then a year ago, and I got 15 days + the 12 holidays or whatever...so it's not THAT bad.

after 3 years it's 20, 25 , etc. I take unpaid time off anyway, I don't need to get paid every single day, haha.
 
30 days (6 weeks, 240 hours) plus every single federal holiday (when the gov't is off, I am off).

this is after 4 years of working here (anyone with 3+ years gets the same)... things may change soon though

canada is different then the US in terms of typically PTO when you start, yeah?

Granted, it really ranges from company to company to begin with.
 
I get 10 hours a month that can roll over year to year up to 360 hours. It goes to 12 and 14 after 5 and 10 years.

Also get 8 hours of sick leave a month that has no max on accumulation.

2.5 years, but it's the same year 1 (and pro-rated for <1 year) which is 27 days+5 company, and can carry up to 5 days. I started at the end of July, and had about 8 days of PTO for 5 months and 3 months couldn't take it due to training (so 8 days for 2 months is pretty good). Then the next year I was given 27 days, but could only take them as I earned them until my 1 year mark (at which point I got all 27 days). At 5 years I get 5 more days of PTO. After that it increases up to a max of 42+5 company holidays.

So, all said and done I'll take my 6+ weeks of PTO at 22 and not bitch over ~3-5 days of PTO.

EDIT: FWIW I am non-union, non-government, and work for a stock-owned company with ~45k employees
