You kiss up in the hopes that their zombies don't come to kill you.

That is a great question.

We learn to take everything for granted, until it's gone. Then we regret. That is one of life's greatest lessons.

Never walk out a door without telling those you love, that you love them. You may not get another chance to do this.

I would like a silent funeral. Don't say mushy stuff about me. Let me rest in peace and quiet.

I think it would be a better idea to speak truthfully about the deceased. Lay it all out on the line, the good, the bad, the happy, the sad. We need a "Speaker for the Dead" as Orson Scott Card wrote... .

I don't think it's the situation with all people.
I don't speak good things about Hitler.

If you want to see a fantastic realization of the exact opposite, check out The Sopranos Season 3, Episode 2 "Proshai, Livushka" for one of the funniest remembrances of a person ever.
Of course, you'll have to make it through the first 2 seasons to really appreciate it, but honestly, I couldn't stop laughing, and just thinking about it is making me chuckle a bit.

I wonder if anyone ever thinks that no one will say good things about them at their funeral.

Probably.

That's why there shouldn't be funerals. The metaphysical element is usually antipodal to what the life was.
