We should abandon the monarchy after the Queen dies.

Canada needs an elected head of state for practical purposes, and after her long reign the monarchy will be even more irrelevant. So let her live out her days as Queen for sentimental reasons, then we can get rid of the crown (but not commonwealth).

Old people might complain too much though.

Meh. She has no power, so it doesnt really matter.

It's tradition, why change it? England will never get rid of the monarchy.

Because Canada would have to print all new money!

Hey if you guys decide to do that can you make it fit in a wallet correctly? The last time I was there I got real tired of the tops of your money sticking out of my wallet.

the god thing was a justification for the behavior. Not the driving factor behind it.

It's a barbaric tradition. It's like saying that seppuku, sati, slavery, etc. are traditions and should be kept.

It's against general Canadian values. The monarchy is a symbol of bigotry. The government should not recognize the Anglican and male members of a particular inbred bloodline as superior.

Canadians should stage a revolution on this Canada Day and be truly free of an atrocious caste system. They should not live a life classified as peasants.

Yeah, I'm for dumping the monarchy afterwards as well. I think it makes sense for Britain to keep one around for tourism and old school purposes, but for us Commonwealth countries... Eh, never meant much to us anyways.
