We need to start a Class-action Lawsuit against Monster Cable.

I'm just venting because I have to order a cable online and wait a few days because Monster Cable is the only brand that I can find locally. The cable I'm going to buy is a DVI->HDMI cable, and I could pick it up today from circuit city for the Monster price of $120 plus tax. The online store is selling the cable for $31 + $5 shipping. $31 is still too much money to pay for some wires and a couple of connectors, but after seeing the Monster Cable price, I feel like I'm getting a great deal.

Go to a regular electronics supply store (not Radio Shack). Probably get it for less than $20.

After having no visual problems connecting my video card's TV-out with the TV using 20 meters of casual, shielded S-Video -- RCA cable (cost me 15$), I doubt Monster cable's usefulness even more than before.
It's a complete rip-off, IMHO.

No no! I used to work at Best Buy and I can assure you that Monster Cable (ALL BOW DOWN) is the absolute best VALUE out there! Your TV will absolutely look like crap if you don't buy monster cable.

No sarcasm here. I am very serious!

This was one of the first things I looked at doing, but I haven't had any luck finding and HDMI connector.

Once you figure it out, you should directly compete with Monster -- you'll make a killing. Either that or become homeless when Monster drives you out of business.

Go to Home Depot and buy lamp wire

Then start a thread here asking if it is as good as "quality cable" and get a thousand different opinions...

Huh? They don't even sell belkin at Home Depot, of course real people crimp their own wires.

I know Belkin is a lot like monster cable with the pretty cables in nice packages, and I know people pay extra for those things. I would probably pay for the monster cable if it was $50, but $120 so over priced that I couldn't even believe it was real. When I first saw the price on the circuit city web page, my first thought was, "I wonder how much it really cost." Then I remembered that CC doesn't really haggle over their prices.

Monster Cable IS high-quality stuff (most of it, anyway). The problem is that 95% of people out there don't have the caliber of equipment necessary to expose differences in cable brands.

Because Monster does a lot of advertising and pays a lot of commissions. Buy what you want on the internet-I've never had to wait more than a week for a cable.

Why is it better? How much of a performance increase can one expect from using monster cable? Is there any research on this subject out there that hasn't been touched by Best Buy/Circuit City/Monster/etc.? In other words, is there any truly independent research out there?

Well, I wasn't talking about Home Depot. Just about any computer/electronics store sells Belkin though (e.g. Best Buy, Comp USA, Staples, etc.).

All you people telling him to go to HD and buy wire...did you even read that he needed a DVI->HDMI cable? If you can just "make" one of those at your home, I'll take 100. How many of you even know what HDMI is yet?

As of right now, selection is very limited, since you're a relatively early adopter of HDMI...you can definitely find some online manu's, but in terms of B&M, Monster is probably the only one you're going to find right now.

Pfft... you pussies. I mine the copper out of my backyard and manually pound it into wire.

Just go to a REAL electronics supply store. Forget BB, CC, RS, and CUSA. Nothing but carnival tents. BTW copper is copper.
