Hit-and-runs plague troops in Iraq.

It seems that we have over extended our stay in Iraq. They don't want us there. Let's get the f*ck out of Iraq and let them live in peace, as we allready did enough damage to their society.

thoughts?

Too late now, to leave at this time would be the worst thing to happen.

Agreed. The unfortunate truth is for better or worse we have to be in it for the long haul now.

Isn't that what was said about VietNam?
I don't know what the worst that could happen, but the best that could have happened is if we never went into Iraq in the first place. There is nothing there for us that's worth being an occupying power in a hostile region.

We never accomplished as much in vietnam as we have in Iraq. These are isolated incidents from Saddam loyalists and groups that came into Iraq to fight US forces, also Iranian operatives trying to stir things up.

The shiites, the largest group of people there, are behind our efforts and their clerical leaders have condenmed any and all attacks on US forces. They have pledged their support to help us rebuild and have agreed to not seek any power that is not a result of their being elected. We are fortunate they are so agreeable to our presence, if they were not things would be far worse.

Leaving now would be worse than anything tha ever comes out of intelligence inquiries, there would be no defense for just leaving them in a huge power vacuum. It would be afghanistan in 5 years.

Send another 100,000 troops over and start door to door disarmament, and send engineers and techs over t orebuild the infra structure. Send economists to sort out the monitary system, and send farmers and farm impements to begin agriculture rebuild t ofeed the masses.

There are enough un employed here in the US to send there to do the civilian work. They can be paid by oil sales.

Any problem with that? Other than a liberal thought of it? 😉

Since we went ahead with the Bush agenda 'Regime Change' in conflict with the U.N. decision,
we are responsible for whatever happens to Iraq - now and for the forseable future,
No help will be coming from the U.N. as Bush acted in his own accord.

Stay there we must - or we will have another Viet Nam type situation, and at this time
we may already have that type of situation. We prematurley reduced our Afiganistan role,
and we will be paying for that for years to come - while at the same time keeping our involvement
within Iraq at a focal engagement. If we cut back there the consequences will be even more catastrophic.

We were out of bounds on rushing into Iraq with a pre-emptive strike for several reasons, the biggest
reason being that the U.N. Resolutions were between the U.N. and Iraq, NOT U.S. and Iraq.
By overstepping our authority and forcing the situation, this Administration superseeded the U.N.'s charter.
Our 'Posse/Lynch-Mob' forced the issue, we have all of the responsibility to ourselves.

The U.N. role of containment and inspection had crippled Iraq to where they were a militarially incomptent force.
No other countries with the exception of U.S & England felt compelled to step in, as the data was not there
to support the level of threat that was being presented by the Bush Administration and Blair.
Why - because the intelligence said no evidence - over and over, but the political inner circle pushed
for an alarmist presentation that would motivate both political parties through over-reaction in the
aftermath of 911, and by radically overstating the possibility of a threat got their way. Falsely.

Painting anyone who questioned the Bush Administrations tactics as an Anti-Patriot and attacking them
as Anti-Government Conspirators is the worst thing that could have happened to our freedoms, as the
effect has made many people surrender their 'Freedom' in the false name of 'Security'.
We as individuals and as a Nation, are less safe in the world today as a result of this action.

Concerning Viet Nam an excellent read about the U.S. involvement,
along with early history, and colonialism (familiar look to this) that led to the defeat of France, then U.S.

All of these things you mentioned are being done(minus sending 100k more troops in).

I guess the neocons at DOD forgot about VietNam already.

None of them served. Too busy banging two at a time at Yale, doping it up and manageing thier trust fund to notice.

Alistar-7:

Sorry Bubba - I don't buy that. We acomplished a hell of a lot more in Viet Nam then YOU will ever know.
We just couldn't hold it together, since the Polititians would not keep their hands out of it - and micro-managed
it out of the control of the Military. We weren't allowed to fight except in certain circumstances.
Have you ever been pinned down by gunfire - and not received permission to return fire ? Stupid isn't it !

We spent 15+ years there, 4+ under Eisenhower & Kennedy before the escallation in 1964 under Johnson.
And the 'Orderly Retreat' during Nixon's tenure.
Granted - most of the pre '64 involvement was as 'Advisors', but we were neck deep in the 50's when France
fell in Dien Bien Phu in '54.

Here's a sobering picture from near where I spent time
I was at An Khe, this picture is near the 'Hair-pin' on the Mang Yang Pass.
French Moble Group 100 - wiped out, to the man.
French Mobile Group 100
When the U.S. pulled out of 'Nam, the Vietnamese pulled out all the gravesite marker crosses to remove the
sight of all the tragety that occured here - I think that's shameful.

You mean Iraq is paying your social welfare. Send all jobless to Iraq and they get their unemployment benefit from Iraqian oil sales. Nice try to cut US social expenditure.

Iraq's first public opinion poll.....

"According to Iraq (news - web sites)'s first opinion poll, released on Thursday, around 73 percent of Baghdad residents say U.S. troops have failed to bring security to their troubled city.

However, only 17 percent of respondents said U.S.-led forces should quit Iraq forthwith. Around 51 percent wanted them to stay until a permanent government can be elected. "

personally I think that's pretty cool we are getting polls out of Iraq, while that article doesn't paint the best picture, they are only talking to a few individuals.....

Iraq is a clusterfvck right now no doubt. Pulling out of Iraq at this point would be the worst idea. Whether or not we should have gone in there in the first place, its too late, we did, now we have to see it through. I would be far more disgusted in Bush if he abandoned the people there altogether. There's going to be a lot of hostility throughout the rebuilding, but that would pail in comparison to the hostility they would have to the US if we bombed the hell out of their country, removed their leader, and then left them to sort it out. That isn't in anyones best interest, certainly not the Iraqi people, nor the US.
