While it's easy to dismiss politicians who say stupid things as stupid people, I think Stewart's comment is far more accurate. When a politician says something that sounds pretty dumb, it's probably because they think their target audience is a composed mostly of complete morons.
And I got to say...playing politics with the latest terrorist attacks, as some Republicans have been doing, is pretty low.

Another funny(strange) thing about this whole latest attempted Attack was the fact that this one originated from Outside the US, unlike the 9/11 Attacks. So in reality there was little direct actions that US Authorities could take in preventing it. Or at least far less then if the Terrorist boarded the Plane within the US.
