I consider myself a liberal and am also a vegetarian...but I cannot stand the propaganda that PETA spits out. My numerous vegetarian friends and people that I talk to would tend to agree with me as well.

Ask your school if you can have a pro-life speaker come and see what kind of reaction you get.
No, our public education system doesn't have any political leanings.

EDIT: By the way, from your title, I thought you had a Pain In The A$$ speaker today.

I'm not in high school, I go to college. And I know why we had this speaker, because my English professor is a liberal POS. The first day in class he was bashing the Constitution. I wanted to smack the grin off his face when he said that.

Id still ask if you could bring in a speaker on that topic... the same theory holds true. I GAURANTEE they wont let you bring in a pro-lifer

I was just in English Comp 1 and our lovely professor got this Gary guy, the "official" speaker for PETA came and showed us these "horrific" videos and talked. The talking part was such bullshit, it was worse than Michael Moore's Bowling for Columbine. I wanted to laugh at the things this asshat said. First, he showed us all of these videos on how farmers abused animals and such. Yea, there's some out there, that's human. But he did NOT show statistics of who does this, I want to find out how many of these slaughterhouse companies do this? I asked him about this during the Q and A situation and he couldn't answer this, he went around it. Typical.

Second, I asked him about that magazine PETA was pushing around to Elementary schools telling the kids their "MOTHER IS A MURDER" and it shows a picture of a angry woman holding a knife over a bunny. I asked him about this and he just really angry and started to talk louder like he wanted to hurt me. This guy was wayyy over the edge. Now I hate PETA even more, I hate them more than liberals now! :Q :D ;) *flame suit on now*

Well, if you read Fast Food Nation you'll see that there is a clear economic incentive to process these animals as fast as they can, and that results in these animals being treated quite poorly. The market is so competitive that you kind of have to treat the animals like sh!t.

Personally, I'm glad I didn't have to watch that stupid video and honestly I still eat meat. I just try to get organic meat when I can. From what I know about PETA, they are a bunch of millitant idiots that spread propaganda and exaggerate their "findings." These are the kinds that will kill a dozen people to save a rabbit.

As for the class, good luck. There are two ways you can handle this, you can challenge the guy and get a C or just shut up and put up and get an A. It really sucks, but such is life.

I love how these political threads automatically turn into name-calling, generalization-loaded threads.

PETA becomes "animal rights activists," "animal rights activists" becomes "tree-huggers," "tree-huggers" becomes "liberals." So here we've gone from a single extreme animal rights organization to liberals as a whole. Impeccable logic.

People on BOTH sides need to stop turning off your brains as soon as you hear the word "liberal," "conservative," or whatever. The opposition may have good ideas, and even if they're not good ideas you have not heard everything in the world that there is to hear, so simply hear them out - you have nothing to lose short of some time, and who knows...you might learn something.

Everybody out there should read John Stuart Mill's "On Liberty" at some point during the course of their lives. It will help you alter your day-to-day interaction with virtually anybody, regardless of political or ethical persuasion.:D
