My suggestion today is to eliminate moderation from AT.

I know, I know, you'll probably think that I'm crazy for suggesting it. The thing is, I've tried out a new site that apoppin and Dave McOwen created, and have been loving it. There is no moderation, and it's a lot of fun and gives posters way more freedom of expression, which really is in the spirit of the internet (and of America if I may).

Perhaps moderate spammers who post those "buy shoes" things and whatnot, but just leave the rest alone!

I know this will probably never happen, but I wanted to drop it in the admin's ears nonetheless. I've been posting here for a long time, and TBH I have been having a lot more fun at ABT despite the lower readership and relative quietness of the forums.

If we did that then there'd be no reason for anybody to post at ABT😉

This place might be to rigid for some which is why sites like ABT and TFNN exist. There's something for everybody:thumbsup:

apoppin doesn't pay me to promote the site, but I think he's a cool guy who deserves any success that will come out of his hard work and risk taking. You can haggle with him if you want. I'll give you 5%. :Q

I've known the guy for literally years on here. We have tended to agree on things, and really I think we brought down AEG together in dramatic fashion.

I just love how the Witch Hunt victim has created one of his own to go after the Grand Champ. OCguy I hope you enjoy your GTX280 cards, and I hope that your conscience escapes any potential damage as a result of what you do. :beer:

This forum underwent a significant shift towards libertarianism with the arrival of the new forum policies instituted by Derek. I do not know if traffic has increased or decease since enough time has passed for these policies to take effect.

IIRC, AT experimented with no moderation during the premium account days (I believe there was a private forum that was not moderated, but you had to pay to get access, I could be wrong, but I think that is how it operated). I never purchased a premium account, so you will have to ask others how that went.

Well, I'm telling you, even with all the AT outcast misfits at ABT (Rollo, Wreckage, Chizow, etc.) we have not had bedlam and things have been fine. I actually like it better.
 
Those perma-banned misfits were causing disruptions/chaos here and were provided multiple opportunities to correct their ways before getting kicked out.

They chose not to.

In those forums that they disrupted, you hear very little enthusiasm / requests for their return.

that alone should indicate something.
 
I tell you what, with the unfettered ability to tell them where to go, I can deal with them fine on my own, and it can actually be an enjoyable experience. Instead of crying for the mods I can tell them to "eat it" and in a sense sometimes they have to. 😉

No, son. I KNOW you're crazy for suggesting it. I was the first mod on these forums. I've watched them grow from under 20,000 to over 200,000. I've been part of a team that has chased a lot of really bad people and been part of putting a few of them in the graybar hotel.

Everything is relative. Anand once told me AnandTech Forums is the largest English language computer oriented frorums in the world. Whether or not that's still true, you can find google links to posts on AT the day they're posted.

They use bots to search for keywords for their spam and to create registration lists for their spammers, and with over 200,000 members, we're a much bigger target, and we do it just to keep the place more enjoyable for you. 🙂
