In the case of airlines, there is a tipping point where the size of your network significantly increases your ability to attract customers and grow faster. So it is possible to merge and not shrink the work force.

In general, I think these two merging will be better for consumers than as independents. It'll give them more market power to under cut the majors, just like Southwest does/did.

I don't think AA and US or Delta and NW should've been allowed to merged, but allowing two minor players link up could be beneficial.
 
If the government served and reprsented the people, monopolies and oligopolies would not be allowed to exist. Yet, the world is full of these entities and it's not getting better. So whether it's the left or the right, they don't represent you. We know who they really serve.

First we have to get the Republican Party banned as a traitorous and subversive organization, and then we have to split the Democratic party into two new parties, one right of center and one progressive and then we have to elect the progressive one to power. Then we can start to have politics that serve people. Only people concerned with real justice will ever do that. There is no other when you feel safe as a human being.

And Consumers as well get F'd with higher prices! The phony promises about competition and lower prices are just that phony. Its all about greed and maximizing corporate profits. Less competition only results in 1 thing.. higher prices in the long term as there is less competitors in the space and more price collusion from the remaining players.
