Cute, but I don't buy that and I bet neither do a lot of Republican congressman. They are scared to death of a win in the Dem column after their lovely running of things during the Bush years. It would remove any doubt that their policies are bad for the country and will be the nail in their platform coffin if things do indeed get better under Dem control.

Apparently you are confused. Democrats had control of congress during the last two years of the Bush admin, not republicans. The dems in congress and Obama have only done more damage. Further, things have not gotten better and they are not going to get better right now no matter who is in control because there are fundamental problems with the US and world economy that need to be addressed first. The parties are just squabbling about how to screw it up further, neither one has any inclination to fix anything. In the absence of actual intelligent action, inaction is the best solution, so blocking dem initiatives is a good thing.

Zebo . Your smart person . With all the 401 K money that goes into the market every month yeat after year . This is a joke . Its smoke and mirrors. As they control a market that should only go up. Its a game were all 401K holders lose . Only the players win as they munipulate the markets .
How can you not see this,

For once I agree with you Nemesis.
Here's a question: Can you guess what happens when all the old folks that put money into the market, take it out because they need to retire?

This is why I won't touch the stock market long term.

Please, by the time the Dems had control of congress the Republican damage had been solidly done. And undoing Republican policies that caused that damage is clearly an improvement. Doing nothing would have just kept us heading for that cliff. You make it pretty evident that folks can be in denial about just how bad the Republican platform failed under Bush, but like I said, a Dem win now is going to make folks have to face it.

The withdrawal will be gradual, since the accounts are being tapped for long-term income, and should be offset by fresh investment from active workers.
There may be valid concerns about long-term market investment, but this is not one.

The best part of being the Grand Opposition Party is that you don't have to present solutions, you only have to oppose.

You do realize how hard it is for a party to pass legislation when they are the minority in Congress and don't control the executive branch, don't you? Literally the exact same things were said about the Democrats while they were the minority and Bush was president (obstructionist, the party of no, no solutions). Just because it's ridiculously hard for the minority to pass any major legislation doesn't mean that the minority has no good ideas.

If the Democrats had forced cloture votes at anything approaching the rate at which the GOP has, you might have a valid point. The Republicans have taken Opposition Party status and elevated it to an art form.

lol

to place blame only on the GOP is insane. People need to wake up and figure out the 2 party's dont give a flying fuck about us. its about staying in power and getting money.

The reason companies are sitting on their cash is because of massive UNCERTAINTY...uncertainty over the direction of this economy (I think we're headed for a depression personally), tax policy (likely going up), cost of more regulation (definitely going up), and rules that change from day to day (BP for example...they fucked up and will of course pay for that, but now some Dem senator suggested we cut them off from all future permits to drill. Singling out a company is a no-no folks).

Seriously, wake up people. You want businesses to hire, yet many of you helped elect the most anti-business administration and Congress in 30+ years. WTF did you expect? At least when Repubs are in charge, businesses have CONSISTENCY and PREDICTABILITY of rules, costs, taxes. Everything that the current administration is doing wrong. The fact is, Repubs are more pro-business and pro-commerce generally. Were they also wasteful the last time around? Definitely. And they are paying for that now (and will pay in the future too when all of us scorned Repubs vote conservative next time, instead of party line).

The govt should have an absolute minimal role in our lives. Since when do we need to rely on it to get by? And yet look at how big and inefficient and wasteful it has become.

Kee-rist. We just went through the most business friendly administration and congress since the 1920's and all we got for that was blued, screwed, and tatooed... quite consistently and predictably, too...

Business wants demand to pick up before they hire... except it can't, until they hire people... but they'll wait, until demand picks up, because they're uncertain, because there's low demand, because they're not hiring people...

Figure it out- unemployed people have a tough time exerting much demand on the marketplace, particularly when their unemployment compensation runs out and business still isn't hiring. Demand is a function of employment, get it?

That is the best thing for the country.

Complete separation between the rich thugs that hate America and it's peasants.

Did you know that 8 of the 10 richest people in congress are democrats? I hope you are in agreement that we vote them out in November and 2012.

Most businesses on Wall Street are bringing in record cash - banks alone bonused out 1% of GDP to a few thousand individuals. Thank you taxpayers.

Ed Schultz and Sen Harkin are here saying it's big business that are in collusion with Republicans who's MO is to strangle economy and jobs until they can get their point men back in power...e.g. Republicans. With a shitty economy we tend to blame incumbents so watch out who you vote for.

Ed Schultz makes his living taking every situation, no matter what it is, and using it to describe how Republicans are destroying this country. Most people are smart enough not to regurgitate his conclusions.

Obama as a senator voted *against* legislation to look in to what Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac were up to

And most Republican "representatives" are paid employees of Big Business and the wealthy and its unAmerican for the CEO to be worth less than 400x what his employees earn.

Unlike those Democrats in cubby123s links, right?

Damn, you Democrats are gullible.

On my part it wouldn't be a guess at all . Total failure on wall street . Thats why they are stealing all they can steal now and in the past . They no whos money has pushed the markets to their highs. Most of us know whos stealing that money threw market manipulation. Same as SS Baby boomers are set to retire in mass. They all know this . There well be bloodshed and they know this also . Open season on the Rich doesn't bother me in the least , But I will not take part. As I seen the hand writing on the wall along time ago . If I am not prepared its No ones fault but my own .

Oh please stop the BS . It was the Clinton adminastration that enacted the laws that paved the way for irresponsiable borrowing. Educate yourself . Both sides here stop with the rage against the party you banter against Instead rage against the machine that both parties are for christ sakes . Sometimes I swear I live in a 4th world country were only idiots call home and cowards roam the range.

BS. We are taking all of ours or whats left of it . The penality will be just fine for us . Not one person I know who has retired with 401K is leaving there money in. There all taking the penality . Better a bird in hand than 2 in the BUSH.

You know this gives me some hope for economy in a tangential way. I mean if they got cash and lots of it they will spend eventually once we make demand happen. I've long argued keeping jobs at home and reasonable unions to make demand since people will have money in their pocket. Hopefully we have the political will. Citizens demanding Congress repeal the treasonous NAFTA + GATT Treaties, which purposely sent our jobs elsewhere and left us with food stamps shoring up formerly employed would be a good first step.
