Seeing as there are less jobs than before and things are much more expensive than they used to be be even ten years ago its notable that hard to realize that younger people have to live at home longer than before.

"These men are happy."

Lol, I'd be happy too if all I did was wake up, eat and play video games. But, it's a false sense of happiness. Because, sooner or later those men are going to have to get up and find work. Their "happiness" is going to feel more like gloom and doom.

I have nothing against video games. I've played my share back in the day. I stopped because I know the dangers if you don't set limitations. They took over my life so I got rid of them. Canceled my steam account, and just stopped playing.

Whose at fault? The kids? Parents? Video game designers? IMO, it's a little of each. The young men who should be out looking for work. There aren't any jobs on your area? Move then. The parents who are supporting this behavior. Are they willing to take care of their child in their retirement years? I seriously doubt it. And, the video game makers for purposely developing video games that are addictive.

IMO, thosr are just excuses.

I just watched a video on an Irish immigrant who started as a janitor and made millions selling real estate. Came to this country knowing no one. Worked at a job no one wanted. Got rich, because he had drive.

Do you really think those young guys are all of sudden going to say "I'd better wake up at 5am so I can find a job." I doubt it. Laziness is an addiction. The longer they wait the harder it will be because you cultivate hard work. It takes time.

Playing video games is a hell of a lot more entertaining than standing around the break room discussing our prostates, and no less productive. Old men are just pissy because they have to get up more often from the games.

As long as said person actually gets a job (or some form of income) then playing video games is no different than any other form of entertainment deemed 'a waste of time'.

No they need to get up at 5am to camp that mob spawn before someone else gets it! :) There was the quest in EQ for a cleric resurrection where people stayed up with their friends to guard the spawn for days for the mob to pop. I camped my Jboots for eons and my Pegasus cloak as well. I had so much fun in those days. I'm still in touch with folks from the game and I log onto my character since its free, to talk to old friends who still play.

meh all b.s. as more and more things in life get automated, there will be less and less reasons to work for 90% of the population and more and more free time for people to be creative & have fun. these guys are just ahead of the game.

Former game addict here. Had to kick the habit after my kids were born . Owning a house, keeping up on the job, feeding a family and play with kids took up all my time. That said, I still buy games for my Steam account that has never been loaded - that's about as close as I get. I tell myself when I retire, that's what I'll be doing tho, play video games and go fishing all day.

Who are the supporters for these fools? Who are paying the rent, utilities, food, and other bills?

Have to be parents and/or family members/friends because unless you are good enough to earn a living as a professional gamer, you don't make much/any money.

I did play some games when I was younger but never was into hours and hours of playing RPG or "quest". Just some FPS or sport game for me.

GW2? I'm max level already since it's my new addiction after WoW. ;) My kids love watching me play. They also get a kick out of the other kids talking on the mic.

Back to my previous post. There are jobs. Puds just need to get skills.

Don't work, don't eat usually works after a few days.

Please. Video games aren't the first nor the most addictive hobby. The addictive games you refer to are the mobile ones, and they are played by people who work, often at work. The basement dwellers aren't playing candy crush ffs.

In my case: Mommy.

I'm only playing games cuz I cant find work. And before anyone suggests "hitting the pavement" : I tried. It didnt work. the kinda jobs I'm qualified for require a lot more than just walking in and asking for work. You need to submit an online application and probably go through all kinds of hoops just to get a phone interview. If you are very lucky you may get a real interview during which all kinds of things can go wrong and cost you the job.
You can not just walk in and get hired. It doesnt work like that.

And way back when I had a real job, I simply did not have time for video games, so I gave up on them. I also gave up television but for whatever reasons that never reentered my life after I lost my last job.

Now that I think about it, not having a job kinda makes me feel less manly. But being short and ugly and bald also doesnt help much.

Hard core gamer found. :D

Actually we have tons of open jobs in S.C. +60K. A lot of them require skills that the workers don't have.

I have three jobs. If by "hardcore gamer" you mean "puts in a couple of hours on Megadrive or Super Famicom emulators a week," well...

This is the point I was going to bring up. Who the hell is paying for these peoples' WoW/PSN/XBL subs? Why do they keep enabling them? Cut them off from the internet, block their phone data, cancel their game subs, they'll get a job real quick.

This is kind of interesting. I have a friend who is a "gamer". Also has a couple of kids, and a woman.

Well, he lives at home with Dad, and his car died, because he didn't maintain it. So he couldn't get to work, because he had no transportation, so he lost his full-time more-than-minimum-wage job.

When he was working, though, and had his car, he would call me up every month, "Hey dude, wanna go to the mall? I gotta go pick up this new game I pre-ordered!".

So, he always had the latest games for his PS4, but he failed to save money to fix his car. Or at least, that's my impression. I don't know the whole story behind it.

I almost wonder if he blames me for not instantly volunteering a couple hours of my time every day to take him to and from work, after his car died, and he called me and was like, "my car died, so I can't get to work".

Note that he neither lives, nor works, in my town. If he did, it might have been more of a consideration. But seriously, I shouldn't have to bail him out every time he screws up his life. (Unless, maybe, he actually needs bail money or something.)
