wd80 won't fail diagnostics

I'm almost sure this drive is failing - but now that I've revived it and rescued my data, it seems to be working fine. Can I / Should I RMA it? It's a WD800BB with 2 months left on the warranty. It worked fine until a couple of months ago when it started clicking and freezing the system (just a data drive though). On reboot it would not be recognized. I disconnected it until I could free up some space to copy the data, got the data off, used it for a while and then it had some more clicks and froze. Then I had a lot of trouble reviving it to erase what was still on there before RMAing. It wasn't recognized as secondary slave (jumper is set for slave) so I tried it in my cheapo removable drive case data pro mobile rack as primary slave and it still wasn't recognized. I connected it to primary slave without the mobile rack and it worked fine.

Now I've tried the WD diagnostics a bunch of times and it keeps passing. I've written zeroes to it, I've tried to stress the disk by copying and deleting lots of files, and now there are no problems.

If it's a problem with the mobile rack (other drives work fine in it) then why didn't secondary slave work? Does it sound like this disk is fine? If I send it back are they going to just send it right back to me?

Wow, a drive that magically healed itself! I wouldn't trust it and try and RMA it. I don't think they will even bother to test it and just send you a new/refurb.

Never needed one of those when I did a advanced RMA online (they send you a drive, and once you get it you send the old one back)

yup, you dont need an error code to RMA it... just fill out the online rma form (either standard or advanced) and you wont have any problem getting the RMA approved

yup, you dont need an error code to RMA it... just fill out the online rma form (either standard or advanced) and you wont have any problem getting the RMA approved
