WD40 on fan? EDIT: Where do i put the machine oil on the fan??

Do NOT use WD-40 for this. It's almost the same as mineral spirits and is a poor lubricant. Instead use a very small drop of light machine oil - not silicone oil, not penetrating oil, but only if your fan has a sleeve bearing. Many ball bearing fans, especially CPU fans, have only one BB, at the front, and at the rear is a sleeve bearing. To avoid applying too much oil, apply it to a toothpick or fine tip, and then apply that to the bearing.

Ya, do not use WD-40. I used it on my cheap sleeve-bearing fan and it did not last very long.

how do i put the oil in it though... all i see in the middle of the fan are the copper wires going around... i dont think i want to put oil on that.. where do i put it???? help

You have to lift off the manufacturer's label in center of fan, the shaft you see is where you put the oil. Make sure label ( or use a piece of duct tape) sticks tightly back, or oil could leak out.

My father just asked me the same question. I replaced the fan in the power supply with a good fan from a fried powersupply. WD40. Ha.
