Just looking through the sale ads, and both Office Max and Circuit City have the WD1200JBRTL for $60 after mail in rebates. It's not on either of their websites (yet) but check out your local sale ads, maybe they're doing it in your area too.

OfficeMax 1/4 ad for the WD1200JBRTL UPC 718037104287 $129.99 less $50 mfr MIR less $20 OM MIR = $59.99.

Same thing at Circuit City - WD1200JBRTL $129.99 less$50 mfr MIR less $20 CC MIR.

I've RMA'd 8 WD JB drives in the last 2 months, i have a small computer shop. If any of you have noticed, The new JB's made in the last 4-6 months are lighter, and the houseing is thinner??

I've gotten brand newone's that has the WD click is a call it now. Screw WD. they've costed me too much, and having to repair customers computers between time and replacement.

I havnt RMA'd even one of their older JB's from like a year ago. Only these new houseing one's!!!

I've contacted WD and even asked for a refund on the drives, instead of and "refurbished" one it says on the Label when you get a rma return. Hard to even sell it on ebay saying refurbished.

I mean I didnt buy a refurbished drive, Dont send me that as a replacement.

I'm skeptical of WD now also...had to RMA a 100GB drive I bought last year, only 4 months after I got it...then I had to RMA the replacement drive this summer. Just waiting for this last replacement drive to go out.....

hmm, i've always had good luck w/WD drives.

However , my friend just had to send one back that he only had for a few months.

I hope they don't become the next IBM.

btw, do these have a 1 year or 3 year warrenty?

Love to see the links. I don't see anything online for either OM or CC. Is this BM only?

OM had some great offerings from time to time, BUT every time they have a B&M HD sale, they remove the drives from the website!!! Why? But you can still order drives by phone order.

tedinde What size JBRTL drives were you sending back? Date codes to watch for?

I've never been able to get Microcenter to pricematch anything.

I'm also shying away from WD drives. I haven't had to return any for replacement but all of my drives have become loud over time.

NOT HOT!! OM is not taking coupons on sale items over the phone. Hope that this isn't a new policy for online or in-store.

Sal

I think the phone coupon is a YMMV. Anyway, OM has this 25 off 100 which can bring the 1200JB down to $35. You can find it at Phatwallet.

No, he's saying to take the Microcenter ad into CC or OM. Obviously you can't use a CC or OM rebate with a MC receipt.

However, ISTR reading here that these stores won't pricematch if they (the store you're shopping at) have a rebate on that item. YMMV, naturally.

Ahh...I did misunderstand the comment, thanks for setting me straight. 😛

Are these drives better than the $89.99 Seagate SATA 160GB drives currently at Compusa?
No, but they're cheaper especially if you buy from OM and use a coupon. I picked one up for $35 AC/AR + tax. Check Phatwallet for more info.

They are pretty different to compare, since these are parallel ATA drives and the others are serial ATA.

Also, to the person who said that OMax wouldn't take coupons over the phone, I just got them to take one this morning. It was a $25 off $100, so my cost AR for this drive is $41.29

I guess it was just the certain crew that wasn't taking the coupons. Actually, the CSR's that you reach with the 1-800 number weren't taking the coupons, but the CSR's at the 1-877 number were.
