WD1200JB vs IBM120GXP vs 2 raid0 Maxtor D740x.

Thats 120GB vs 120GB vs 80GB x 2 respectively.

Im going to purchase one of these options and thought i should get some feedback. The two 120GB drives are about $210, while the Maxtors are $120.

The Maxtors are the quietest, the WDs have an 8MB buffer, and the IBMs are faster than the WDs in some benches. I dont care about the IBM ~330hours limitation as ive got a 2 year old 75GXP and a one year old 60GXP, both going great. Its obvious the limitation is just to save their butts.

Would the Maxtors in RAID 0 kick the crap out of the other two drives?

Right now I'm leaning towards the WDs.

Thanks for input.

The RAID 0 config would only make sense if you do a lot of large file transfers, i.e. video editing or similar. For a typical usage pattern, one of the other two would be more useful. I've got IBM drives in my boxen also, but with all the developments lately, I'd probably go with WD here.

I'm gonna suggest the Maxtor D740X series. They're fast, quiet, and incredibly reliable -- backed by the best support in the industry. Did I mention how ridiculously cheap they are? 😀

And stay away from IBM at all costs.
