Sigh. Drive came packed in lame bubble wrap at very bottom of box. Brown paper used as filler on top. Filled with sense of dread. Drive was DOA.

Don't know if packing had anything to do with this, but is this really the best Newegg can do? Bleh.

The energy-saving feature of this drive causes the Load Cycle Count to increase VERY RAPIDLY (up to several times per minute!) under certain operating systems (e.g. Linux) and applications. As hard drives can undergo a finite number of LCCs, this problem can dramatically shorten the lifespan of this drive, perhaps killing it in under a year of use.
Other drives with this problem can often be fixed by having their hibernation time altered (or turned off) by programs like hdparm. This drive, however, has the hibernation time set at 8 seconds in the firmware, and that time cannot be altered by software. Forum posts from those who've tried talking to WD about this issue suggest that WD has no interest in fixing this." http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16822136149
Is this still an issue with these Western Digital Green Power hard drives?

I *really* hate that about Newegg. You would think they would know better by now?
