To make life simple, just pick up a WD 3200AAKS or a WD6400AAKS depending on your size needs. They are both cool, quiet and pretty snappy.

Asintu, any large drive is going to be faster than any smaller drive, unless that smaller drive is a Raptor (and not meant to be installed in a server). Samsungs are pretty decent, though not awesome, except for the Samsung F1's. The F1's are very nice.

the 7200.11 seagates are supposed to be better about it though. the 7200.10 ones were horribly loud (i had one and acutally returned it because it was louder than everything else in my computer, which happens to be very quiet)

another thing...if u get a sataII hdd do you need sataII ports on mobo or will it work with normal ones?
is sataII 3.0gb and sataI just 1.5?
My 500GB 7200.11 is pretty loud. Not first-gen 7200 ball bearing screamer loud, but enough that it's annoying in a quiet PC. Much louder (particularly when seeking) than a 6400AAKS and not even on the same planet as a 6400AACS.Originally posted by: hans007
