WD USB/Firewire lighted drive won't show up

I have this 250gb WD external usb/firewire lighted combo drive and cannot for the life of me get windows to recognize it when connected via firewire.

I have a PCI firewire/USB card connected. The USB ports work just fine. In Device Manager, everything appears normal. When connected via USB, the drive shows up. But not when using firewire. Looking in Disk Management it doesn't show up either.

What can be going on with the firewire connection? Can't figure this one out. Thanks.

Other than your problem with getting the drive to work with firewire, how do you like it? I am in the market for an additional hard drive and am leaning towards external. I saw these drives on Best Buy online but they don't have them in my local store. I was wondering what they look like. Is it cool looking or does it look cheap? They have a deal on the 120 GB basic drive right now that I am thinking of getting. Anyone else have this drive or have seen it in person that can comment?

The drive is great, no complaints at all when it was working via firewire.

Something strange happened tonight. There are two firewire ports on the back of the drive. I tried hooking in to one of the other ports and suddenly smoke came out of the back of the drive, but it stayed on. And it won't work via usb anymore....ugh.
