WD Red 3TB NAS (Can I use this?)

I was looking for a new Hard Drive just for backup and ran across something called Red 3 TB NAS from Western Digitial and read some really good reviews about it. However, after closer inspection I found out that these hard drives are for NAS which I know nothing about. So my question is, can I use this hard drive and still get good speeds for my personal PC as a storage medium? I don't plan to run Raid or anything of that nature, I'm just plugging it into my PC and store videos and pictures in them.

Sure, it is a HDD like any other after all. WD Green would work the same(almost) if you'd like a cheaper option. Personally, I'd go with the Red although I have the Green.

The red is very similar to the green. However it has 3 main differences:

1. Slightly higher power consumption due to less aggressive energy saving
2. Gyroscope added to correct for vibration when used in a PC/server with lots of HDD. (Adds cost and no benefit if used in an PC with 1 or 2 HDD).
3. Reduced sector error recovery. These drives are tuned for RAID use, so if they have a bad sector, they don't attempt to recover the data, they just tell the computer to let the RAID recover it. Greens will attempt error recovery, because they are not designed for RAID use.
