so i installed 98 se and the boot up is slow as hell. heard it might be my ram so i decieded to go to XP but then when i tried to go through set up it couldnt find my harddrive (WD raptor sata) any1 know whats wrong?

your SATA raptor came w/ a SATA driver disk...."press f6 to insall any third party RAID or other drivers".....so when you see the blue set up screen when you boot using the windows xp CD...you'll see that msg....(i think it was after the CD loads the files..or was it b4?..arg i just reformatted last week to!! how can i forget!?..i have a sata raptor too!)...so look for it..and press f6 like a madman right when you see it....( i think it was f6..)

then it will later prompt you to insert the driver disk and you just follow the on screen instructions..

The disk should have come with your motherboard. Or you can download it from the motherboard manufacturers website.

OH YEAH!...hehehe oops yea it comes w/ ur mobo, not w/ ur hdd....was wondering where it came from... yeah thx for the correction boomerang

well i put in the cd that came with my motherboard but then it doesnt work i press enter and it doesnt change. so what disk do i need?

also it says put it into drive A but then i have the cd that comes with the mobo so then im putting it into D so .....😕

You will have to copy the files to a floppy. AFAIK there is no way to make the XP setup routine look to your CD-ROM drive.

Well you're not teling us what board you have. Of course, unless someone reading this has the same board, how would they know what files and where they are on the disk....right?

Download them from the mobo makers website. You may even get a newer version. You may have to unzip them. Whatever the case, don't just copy a folder. Copy all the individual files so the XP install routine can find what it's looking for.

that files 6megs how is it supposed to fit on a floppy? do you happen to know what files i need to copy to the floppy? thanks

unzip it...and you'll see "disketes" folder...and you'll also see disk 1, disk 2...copy the contents to two disks..

and try that

i pressed f6 and it asked for the disc, i put it in and then pressed enter but then it says txtsetup.oem could not be found.

OK I downloaded the drivers and did some exploring.

1)Double click on driver_raid_silicon_3112.exe

2)Double click on the SiI folder.

3)Double click on the Si3112 folder.

4)There will be another Si3112 folder, double click on it.

5)Copy all the files from within that folder to a floppy. Should work for you.

If it doesn't, start over and at steps 3 and 4, substitute the Si3112r folder. I don't know if your board is a SATA RAID board or just plain SATA. The "r" is the key here.

They buried this really deep. Bunch of poop really.

Hope this works! 😀
