WD Raptor For Sale

Buying from atacom is like a crappe shoot. You better hope they ship what you wanted and won't have to return anything.

If you get what you ordered then they are a great place to buy from. If you must interact with them beyond simply placing your order then you're screwed. I speak from 4 yrs experience in doing business with them.

Ok thanks Have not orderd yet still decding on a few detail on the new rig, was on of the drives I was hoping to get and they were the only ones I found that had them if I wait a bit more I am sure more reliabel sources like Newegg will have them in stock.

Best experience I have ever had with buying H-drives is through Insight.com.

Specific link to WD Raptor is here WD Raptor for $170.99.

In this case they will order upon request, typically when Insight says this they will have one shipped to you in <1 week (+ shipping time).

expensive!!! you can get an 18.1GB 15,000RPM IBM drive for $120...
bah but i can't imagine the performance of two of them on RAID 0!!

It's expensive because of demand, and very few vendors have them in stock. Once HyperMicro and Newegg start recieving shipments, I'd be surprised if they cost more than $140.

Unless you're really eager to get your hands on one, I'd wait a couple weeks for the premium to wear off.

Not really you also need a scsi controller and stuff for your IBM if you don't have them. Plus your drive's just an 18GB the 36GB one is more like $200.

Actually, if noise isn't too big an issue, the 36Gb Maxtor Atlas 10k IV is about $190 and should run quieter and cooler than the old 15k IBM's. And it will have much higher transfer rates too.

Personally, even 18Gb is way more than enough for my needs but I think I'm in the minority there. 😀
