WD, Quantum, or Maxtor? (30+gig, 7200RPM, ATA/100)

I am looking for a hard drive to replace my IBM 30-gig 75GPX. Have to be IDE and at least 30-gig, 7200RPM, and ATA/100.

-Western Digital Cavier
-Quantum Fireball
-Maxtor DiamondPlus or DiamondMax

Which of the above would you go for? I want to hear about recommendations and (especially) anyone's bad experiences with 'em.

What I am looking for, in the order of importance:
1. Quality - it has to last and trouble-free, and I want to avoid data corruption and bad sectors.
2. Quietness - less noise and clicking sounds.
3. Speediness - drives today are focusing on speed competition anyway.

Thanks!

edit: hahahhha.h... READ THE FIRST POST ANDY!

Quantum would too fit the bill, but its noiser RELATIVELY to the others.
WD 7200 Cavier or Expert is ok.
Maxtor Diamond Plus 40 and 45 are great and cheap, that's if they don't break.

Maxtor!

From my experiences, Maxtor has never let me down (yet). I have a couple of Maxtors, a Quantum, an IBM, and an old Western Digital. The one Quantum drive I have, it already has bad sectors, it's noisy as hell and just plain sucks. The IBM has performed flawlessly so far and is the quietest of all my drives. The Western Digital, I have nothing bad nor good to say about it. The Maxtors have the best bang for the buck...

Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 60, the new series with 20Gig platters. Excellent hard drives.
If you can wait a little longer the Quantum Fireball Plus AS will also be a great drive. Drop WD.

everyone seems to love maxtor nowadays, but a lot of old school folk still harbour a grudge. They have a checkered past.

When I bought my quantum fireball (ka) it was one of the loudest drives on the market, but I think I remember reading that the newere LCT's were very quiet.

LCT are made by Quantum with the intention of being the Quietest and "Hardest"(shock proof) hdd,
manwhile, its 5400 and seek time is not as good as the ones mentioned.

meanwhile, maxtor is...... nah, its too early in the morning, don't wanna start a flame.... 🙂

I have a maxtor plus45 and I can't complain it's sweet. and Maxtor now has a no hassle return or exchange policy. Can't beat that.
