How's the backup software compared to seagate freeagent pro?

FYI, you only get raid 1 if you sacrifice half the space (so you get 500GB of redundant storage). It's raid 0 by default, so probably quite speedy.

I got some in the mail from Best Buy good for 6/22-6/25. They were 10% off coupons or 12% if you are a Reward Zone member. I get similar coupons from them in the mail once or twice a month.

I think that should be possible. I swapped out a MyBook Essential Edition before.

MyBook enclosures are probably one of the easiest to open up to upgrade drives, with Seagate being the hardest!
