wd hd problems - anyone...

this is seriously like the 3rd wd jb hd that has gone bad after a power outage for me although hooked up to a surge protector. anybody else have problems with the jb drives. at least wd has a great rma online service. also i think im going to try a seagate V drive since ibm, maxtor, and wd have all failed on me - anybody else use segate drives?

After that major power outage here... (Detroit)... I turned my pc on, and the HDD made a LOUD noise. I was scared. So I rebooted, and then it went away.

Maybe you need a new PSU? What about a UPS? It could be very likely that your PSU is running on i ts maximum ability and slight changes really affect it... What PSU do you have and are you on a UPS?

I have had about 7-10 WD's fail at my office in the last year, and every one of our PCs is on a UPS.

My confidence in WD is not real high at this point!

yeah stupid me - just moved into my new apartment and was too lazy to hook up my ups to the computer and then the power went out when i was recording some tv show. and then it worked for a little bit and then there was a sound and then i wasnt even able to use wd diagonistic tools. also im on a sb51g with i believe a 200w ps - which should be good enough for an xpc and the components i have in it - i was just thinking that wd hd might be made cheaper than other hds - since they re so dirty cheap to buy and thereby be more sensitive to electrical problems.

Yes I did... RMA'ed all of them

I'm sending my 120 gigger in tomorrow.
And I lost alot of data on that one and am very much less the happy in WD. The drives I have now will be the last drives from them I use. Its IBm, Seagate and Maxtor for me.

i think wd is overrated. my western digital 100GB failed on me after about a year. i lost around 60 gigs of stuff. about 15 also, ther 120gb i have now is too loud for me.

Just completed the advanced rma form for my 80gig 8mb cache WD. I am tired of HD failures period. Not just WD.
