If they won't pricematch, buy one from CompUSA and one from Best >Buy, use the UPC from the Best Buy model and the receipt COPY from >CompUSA. Get the rebate from CompUSA and return the drive to them >using the orig. receipt.

I don't think CompUSA will take the rebate without original receipt. Can anyone correct me on this???

@#$#@%! I was just in the Braintree store today and I hadn't read this thread yet. Store closes in one hour, do they accept phone orders? phone pricematches? please let me know, thanks :)

cooltechie: Do you live near braintree? And at what time did you go and they said they were out of stock? the web page someone linked to says they are in stock. I was probably standing in line behind a fellow anandtecher today without knowing it ;)

Dude,

On the rebate form, it says "send the copy of your receipt and keep your original"

Freeman: Which rebate form?
Both WD and ChumpUSa require an original UPC.
How can we get both rebates??

Mysterie,

thank you for posting your receipt. had to use it to get the pricematch at the Emeryville store in SF Bay Area. I got the last two though so no more for that store.

Dude,

on the rebate forms I picked up, it specifically says send in a COPY of the receipt and save the original for your records.

I guess you didn't get the rebate forms. One rebate form asks for original UPC, the other rebate form asks for the capacity label. You should have no problem in getting two rebates.

Today is my lucky day!!

In the morning, I went to BestBuy got the HD for $129. The best part is it has two sets of "proof of purchase" inside the wrapping. Yes, two UPCs with capacity labels.

Then I went to CompUSA. It rang up $209. I pointed to the circular, said"it's $189.99". The guy took a look at the circular, said "$129"! Off course, I didn't stop him. So I got one from CompUSA for $129 with no hassle.

Let me see. I'll have one, my sister will have one and my dad can take the extra rebate .

Peace.

Damn... I missed it. Two stores out in the burbs and neither had them. At least I was able to pick up a Sony 12x CDR drive, a 50 pack of the Fuji CDR, and the MS Streets & Trips software. I also got two returned web cams (cheesy ones) that were returns for $15/pop. Fun to play with...

CompUSA's online stock system really blows.

I was at the Braintree store last night, and they were out. The guy said they had 40 on order. Don't know when they will be in. Went there again at 10 this morning, found 2. Pick up one and left the other for the next lucky one. So yes, they did have it in stock.

My roommate picked up one at the Buckhead store today. They called Best Buy and were on hold for about an hour trying to get the price. Guy finally said "129.99 with a 30 dollar rebate". CompUSA took that to mean $159 and would only price match to that amount.

Still, $80 w/ tax for a 45GB drive ain't bad.

I was gunna try a different store, but decided I just don't have the money for one now, and my brand new 15GB drive will have to do for a few months until I can get another for cheap.

Well, I just got my 3 Hard Drives. For you hunters there were still a couple at the Janzen Beach(Oregon) CompUSA when I left. One thing though. There was this Compusa lady that was totally being rude. She was basically trying to tell me that we couldn't price match Best Buy and then after the manager said we could she tried to tell me that the $60 dollar rebate wouldn't be honored if we price match. I just held my tongue and bought my drive. She doesn't know a thing. Anyways the rebate fulfillment center is probably like in AZ like they would care. Plus, there is jack squat on the rebate form saying that the drive had to be bought at xx.xx price. Oh well, just had to vent. But good luck there are still a couple of HD's hanging around

hi all,

for those who are a little apprehensive about the compUSA rebates, I can understand where you're coming from. just from my personal experience, i've had problems with them also, but compusa has honored both rebates I sent in thus far. *BUT* I had to call them up in both instances to inquire about their status. One was a $60 compusa monitor rebate and the other was a $20 powercenter rebate. They asked me some questions about the rebate form, the upc code number, etc... and about 2 weeks after the call, I got a rebate from them :D

personally, whenever it comes to rebates, there's always two golden rules i *always* follow and its gotten me pretty much every rebate i sent for thus far :

:cool:1. good record keeping - always make copies, copies, and more copies. make copies of the original receipt, the upc code or whatever proof of purchase (POP) that you send in, and always keep an extra rebate form for personal records. try to always keep the original receipt for yourself as well.

:cool:2. instructions - always follow the instructions to the *FINE* detail. they will sometimes decline your rebate request if you dont do exactly as they say. i've had this happen to me before when i sent in a COPY of my original receipt when they required the ORIGINAL receipt itself. when i called them up to see if i can send them my original receipt to them now, they said, "NOPE. SORRY" i believe it was a $30 memorex cdr rebate that this happened on, back when 50cdr spindles used to cost $49.99! hehe :Q so if they say you need the original receipt, try to oblige.

in instances where i've needed the original receipt for 2 diff. rebates, i'd just call them up, inform them of the situation and almost always, they accepted a copy of my receipt. i've also always made sure i write down the person i talked to and the date and the time just in case they try to pull the SOL line on me.

it took me *ALOT* of work to adjust to this style as i'm not the organized neat freak type who keeps track of everything. but i find it well worth the time and effort when you need to call them up to see whats going on after you've given them beyond the normal rebate processing time listed on the rebate for them to send you out your check.

hope this helps. if anyone has any other tips, suggestions, or experiences on processing rebates, feel free to share! :)

also, i'm sorry to hear about those of you that werent able to get in on this deal. dont worry, there'll be a next time. it was great while it lasted tho!!!! :D:D:D

Yeah, they're probably just trying to scare people away by saying you won't get the $60 rebate. I never did trust CompUSA rebates anyway, but you can sure as hell bet i'm gonna fight for this one if it doesn't come in.

I tried to get three (one for me, two for a couple of friends)...only got two. Pricematch went through fine...the people were very friendly, but when I tried to buy a third drive (writing my third check in a row), my check got declined even though I more than enough in my account. It turns out that Equifax (the company that CompUSA contracts to handle the check writing) will not allow me to write checks of such a great amount more than twice. I will be calling the general manager of the store to complain about the humiliation and BS I went through in getting a check declined first thing tomorrow. Equifax SUCKS!!

Here you go Bad_Dude (althrough, I believe that pricematching at CompUSA with the CompUSA receipt might get you farther):
Best Buy Receipt

If anyone is curious when I left CompUSA in Montclair around 2PM they still had some of those drives. It maybe helpful for anyone who wants one of these beauties and live near this area (Pomona, Claremont, La Verne, San Dimas, Upland, etc.).

This deal is over though, right? In terms of getting the drive for $39.99 + tax. But as barebottoms pointed out earlier we can still pricematch CompUSA with BestBuy @ 129.99 and get the standard $30 rebate. So both would be costing us $99.99...

Or am I missing something?

say actually, i guess this deal isnt over yet!

the $60 compusa rebates say HD has to purchased between 10/7 to 10/14
the $30 WD rebate is good til 11/11

as long as you can get the HD and get a pricematch on this deal, its good til 10/14 ! :Q :D

Well, CompUSA online store still shows this item to be instock. Has anyone tried to pricematch this to Staples for $129(after rebate price) or use Bestbuy at $129 ? May even be better if you can use a coupon ? Of course, you can still buy this at the $189.99 price and get the $90 rebate from their online store.

I need your opinion and suggestions:

I went to several stores today looking for this deal. Everyone was sold out except for one - they had a sign up that said "due to shipping problems this product is not in stock". I had asked the upgrade center guy where the MS Streets & Trips software was - after we found it I asked him about the drives. He basically repeated the same thing on the print out sheet on the cart and told me to go see the customer service people.

So I grab all my stuff and go up to the front desk. I tell the girl that I'm looking for the $99 hard drive deal and the guy at the upgrade center told me to come see you about it not being in stock. She wants all the details of what this guy looked like, etc. and then called back there. Why? Then she told me she couldn't give me a rain check and that she would offer me $30 off a comparable priced drive. All the time she was saying this she wouldn't look me in the face. Why? She was embarrased, I don't know why...

What do you guys think? Did they have them and not put them on display? Did the girl feel guilty just because they didn't have the offer? I'm glad the deal isn't over so hopefully we can all get in on it but I'm still confused by what happened.

Oh, and I didn't know what to do then - I guess I should have got angry and loud and asked for the manager but I didn't.... So I just payed for my other stuff and left. I'll definately write a letter to CompUSA corporate because I feel that they should have had them in stock. If they didn't, they should have offered a comparable deal and not a lame duck "$30 off a comparably priced drive."

HEY: In Seattle, none of the CUSA would pricematch... so the best deal is to get it at Best Buy where you don't have to deal with TWO rebates. Instead of $190, you only have to pay $130 up front... and in the end you get it for $100. Order it from BBuy online!

I just bought one at BB and one at Compusa thinking to return one to compusa. Do you guys think that some how Compusa will stop honor the $60 rebate?
Any problem with anyone who in past could not get the rebate after they declined the rebate? Anyone got reimbursed in local store after the rebate was declined?
