hi all,
for those who are a little apprehensive about the compUSA rebates, I can understand where you're coming from. just from my personal experience, i've had problems with them also, but compusa has honored both rebates I sent in thus far. *BUT* I had to call them up in both instances to inquire about their status. One was a $60 compusa monitor rebate and the other was a $20 powercenter rebate. They asked me some questions about the rebate form, the upc code number, etc... and about 2 weeks after the call, I got a rebate from them
personally, whenever it comes to rebates, there's always two golden rules i *always* follow and its gotten me pretty much every rebate i sent for thus far :

1.
good record keeping - always make copies, copies, and more copies. make copies of the original receipt, the upc code or whatever proof of purchase (POP) that you send in, and always keep an extra rebate form for personal records. try to always keep the
original receipt for yourself as well.

2.
instructions - always follow the instructions to the *FINE* detail. they will sometimes decline your rebate request if you dont do exactly as they say. i've had this happen to me before when i sent in a COPY of my original receipt when they required the ORIGINAL receipt itself. when i called them up to see if i can send them my original receipt to them now, they said, "NOPE. SORRY" i believe it was a $30 memorex cdr rebate that this happened on, back when 50cdr spindles used to cost $49.99! hehe :Q so if they say you need the
original receipt, try to oblige.
in instances where i've needed the original receipt for 2 diff. rebates, i'd just call them up, inform them of the situation and almost always, they accepted a copy of my receipt. i've also always made sure i write down the person i talked to and the date and the time just in case they try to pull the SOL line on me.
it took me *ALOT* of
work to adjust to this style as i'm not the organized neat freak type who keeps track of everything. but i find it well worth the time and effort when you need to call them up to see whats going on after you've given them beyond the normal rebate processing time listed on the rebate for them to send you out your check.
hope this helps. if anyone has any other tips, suggestions, or experiences on processing rebates, feel free to share!
also, i'm sorry to hear about those of you that werent able to get in on this deal. dont worry, there'll be a next time. it was great while it lasted tho!!!!
