On a side note: how do you pricematch a product? Does one show Compusa's ad to BestBuy's people?

I despise any of you bastards who got/will get this drive for $39. :D

I drove nearly 100 miles just to get one for $100. The horrible irony is that it occured to me to search for a pricematch, but the price was already so attractive that I thought, "Nah, no way this could get any better". Gotta admit I like the guy's sig that reads, "If it sounds too good to be true, you probably saw it on AnandTech".

Oh well, guess I'll snag The Sixth Sense from the satellite to this drive in a few minutes, there'll be plenty of time to second guess myself later.

Best regards,
Floyd

Hey anyone picking up these drives and paying cash? If you are... Give me an e-mail. I want two of these drives, at least one. I'll pay you back your full price including tax and shipping. Just remember to grab the rebate forms for me.

Why would they do a PM if the price after rebate is lower than BB's? Anyone else has luck in doing that?

Well I bought this 45g drive at Sams for $149 last week. I was supposed to get a $40 rebate but because I sent in a rebate earlier in the month (for other sams club products, not the HD) they said they wont give it to me. I still have the label an UPC though. Could some one scan me a CompUSA receipt so I can get these rebates instead. Would be very helpfull. Beats going down an buying the HD to scan receipt an then take it back. Thanks a tone!

They tried pulling that crap on me too. They said it ends up being the same thing, then I told them I never get CompUSA rebates in anyway (which really is true). They told me they would pricematch it to $159.99, and I said no, $129.99, then they said Best Buy would never have it that cheap. I told them to simply call them up. After like 15 minutes of waiting, the guy just yelled to the counter "give it to them for $129.99." I said I wanted two, but they said I could only get one, luckily I had a friend with me and ended up getting two.

P.S. - EDISON,NJ HAD ABOUT 17 LEFT WHEN I WENT IN, BUT THEY WERE GOING FAST, AND THE PEOPLE WHO HEARD ME ARGUING WITH THEM WILL SURELY PICK THEM UP, SO HURRY!

Lemme know how your luck turns out at the edison store.

Ohhhh :( I can get to Edison in 20 minutes or so, but it'd be a pain to drive down there to find out the drives are all gone. I'll give it a shot in Springfield (much closer) where there's a CompUSA and a new Best Buy just opened this weekend, pretty much across the highway.

Glad pricematching is working out for some of you. Great detail Spindler.

I didn't try to pricematch with Comp Usa because I Had the choice of Purchasing the last one at Best Buy right then without the hassles of a $60 might-come in rebate or take the chance and see if Comp USA would price match and the drive be sold by then. Went to Comp USA
this morning thinking there would be none left and they had about 5 or more left on display. I had asked customer service if they priced match and they said they do with the "Item has to be in stock" crap.
I told them I had a receipt and the hard drive from Best buy and if they sold there's I would take it back (Best Buy had none in stock).
It was a NO GO.

A thought occured though. Those who may want to take a chance and buy one at Comp and hold on to it for a few days (however long they will offer the price match) and see if any other WD45G hard drives are received at Best buy in the next couple of days at the 129.97 price. If not just return it if you don't want it (Just verify returning policies & possible restocking fees). You may luck out with a price match with rebates. But it looks like too many things have to be going your way for this one. As for me it's too much running around already and not worth trying to go for the the extra $60

Good Luck All

Try to PM, no go. So I am going to send in my rebate with CompUSA's copy, buy it from BB, then return it with original receipt to CompUSA.

If you send in your rebate from the compusa purchase .. aren't
you going to have to cut a UPC.. or proof of purchase from
the box? How can you return it with pieces cut out of the box..
maybe I am confused.
I hate these companies who use REBATES as pricematching..
that shouldn't count.
cj

I am just going to be happy to get it for 99$.. i bought 2 of them
and was there bright and early Sunday at Comp.
sigh

I had 2 in my hands now. One from BB, one from CompUSA. I will send in one UPC and return the other one to CompUSA.

I checked with the Western Digital support line for rebates and the rebate is only limited to one per product, not one per person, household, address. I got it successfully pricematched. I bought one from BestBuy and brought the receipt as proof (might as well keep the thing, maybe for my TIVO-$117 after 10% off). The guy went to his manager, came back and gave me the price. I will post the receipt up for anyone that wants it. Just give a me a few minutes.

*edit* here's the receipt:

Montclair CA? Harvey Mudd? They wouldn't match for me. I'll try Amex now.

Edit

How about this? The Sale is a 2 Day sale, so wait until after the Sale. The rebate for $60 off is Valid for Purchases between,
10/7/2000 to 10/14/2000. Then they can't use the Lame $60 rebate excuse.

barebottoms: you got me confused, which $60 rebate? Or the $30 rebate at best buy? Or is the rebate at compusa.com $60 compusa rebate + $30 western digital rebate?

cmv: Compusa's claim is that the price is the same after the rebates. So they won't match for me. The ad for Compusa says its a 2 day sale, so after the sale either they think the $60 rebate will go away or the Price will go back to the regular $209 price. Then maybe they would price match Best Buy then.
