They will go down in time, but no one I know would ever buy these for home servers or a NAS. They are wicked expensive and you can get 3TB drives for 99 with sales.
 
Considering 2 TB black costs $250 in India. $400 is steal. Although I would rather buy the latest gen Seagate 3 TB at $200 each.

for less money. ~240 to be exact. you can have 6TB of seagate 7200 in a RAID 0 configuration.

then again. bragging rights was never cheap. carry on.
 
I'm wondering if these will be the same design as FYYZ/FYYG (the recent RE update) only with different firmware and no TLER.
this would make them 800GB/platter
the RE is going for $100/TB now

If this is the case the 7200.14 will likely outperform them.

Backups have nothing to do with warranty. The question is whether or not you'll have to spend more money when the Seagates break down between 1 and 5 years down the line.

You should have a proper backup solution regardless of which drives you decide to buy. The warranty just means you won't have to shell out again. Really easy to argue IMO.

Not really, RE is an enterprise series, the best HDDs you can by pretty much. I've got a few and they've been great. I wouldn't waste money on them to store movies on, but for real work they are the only ones to get.
